Six Rivers National Forest Seeks Secure Rural Schools Title II Project Proposals

This is a press release from the Six Rivers National Forest:

Six Rivers National Forest is seeking project proposals for funding from Title II of the Secure Rural Schools and Community Self-Determination Act. Project proposals should be submitted by August 31, 2023.

Proposals should make investments in, and create employment opportunities through, projects that improve the maintenance of existing infrastructure; implement stewardship objectives that enhance forest ecosystems; or restore and improve land health and water quality. Projects may take place on National Forest land or on non-federal land, so long as the projects benefit Six Rivers National Forest resources.

Funding available for Title II projects within Humboldt County is $245,000. All proposals will be reviewed by the Humboldt County Resource Advisory Committee (RAC) and top project proposals will be forwarded to Six Rivers National Forest Supervisor, Ted McArthur, for a final decision. Applicants for Title II funds are strongly encouraged to contact Mark Deperro, the Humboldt County RAC Designated Federal Officer, at [email protected] or Ben Littlefield, RAC Coordinator, at [email protected] for eligibility, help, and advice before filling out the online application.

The Secure Rural Schools program provides critical funding for schools, roads, and other municipal services to more than 700 counties across the U.S. and Puerto Rico. Within this program there are three distinct categories, or titles: Title I for roads and schools, Title II for projects on Federal lands, and Title III for county projects.
