This is very sad. I knew this guy a little bit and he was a kind soul. Always going out of his way to say hi and especially to say hi to the dog. He was great with dogs and one day came out of nowhere to help me seperate a couple dogs who had gotten into an argument. I saw him almost daily playing with, exercising and training the dogs that live near the field near Healthsport. He really connected with these fine animals… I’m sad that he didn’t take the overpass and died like this. I cannot believe that somebody could be so heartless that they just left him there after hitting him. This driver needs to be held accountable for driving away. Our courts have allowed hit and runs to become standard behavior and they should not be….Rest in Peace, Friend…

A couple years ago, just getting dark enough to notice if folks weren’t using headlights, I was almost to Eureka, in the fast lane approaching the Herrick overcrossing. All of a sudden, a lady carrying a bag of groceries scurries across the freeway! I saw her just darting into my lane maybe 40 ft ahead of me, which means, at highway speeds my left fender just missed her tail end. It was so close, and so shocking, I pulled in at the Dodge dealership and called 911, just in case. ..”Did you contact her with your car?”
“No, don’t think so, but if there’s a dead body out there, it was me or I’m a witness!”
She chose to carry a bag of groceries across the freeway at twilight rush hour, instead of using the overcrossing.

Hit and run is common as a sunset, just like in Mexico.

For the love of Christ, what person in their right mind walks across a freeway?

Many people hit by cars that way end up in pieces from the impact. Most don’t die instantly, though the injuries are almost always fatal…

Are there fences down in that area?
