Providing a ‘Hand Up’: Nation’s Finest’s Mission in Humboldt County

This is a press release from Nation’s Finest:

Nation’s Finest, a 50-year-old non-profit providing housing, mental health, case management, and job training services to Veterans and their families, has been the sole provider for Veterans experiencing homelessness in Humboldt County since 2011. Located in Old Town, a welcoming staff provides resources to any Veteran in need. These services include case management, funds for security deposits or rental debt, and transitional housing for single men, women, and emotional support/service animals.

Transitional housing at Nation’s Finest is a structured program that follows a clinical model to support Veterans reaching self-sufficiency. The staff embraces Nation’s Finest’s mission to support each Veteran as an individual, formulating comprehensive, personalized plans to help reach their goals. In this program, basic needs are provided such as: three meals a day, utilities, internet, and transport.

Nation’s Finest is a part of the Humboldt County Continuum of Care (CoC), which links to local resources to ensure a collaborative effort is made on an ongoing basis. Proving the power of collaborating with your community members and peers, this effort has led to an increase in successfully housed Veterans.

Every day, Nation’s Finest sees the need for community involvement through private donations or attending their fundraising events and is always seeking local landlords willing to rent to a Veteran who has earned our support.

Their next fundraiser is on 4/29/2023 – A cornhole tournament at the Fortuna Veterans Memorial Building at 1426 Main St. Fortuna, CA. Please reach out to their main office (number below) for information.

Nation’s Finest in Eureka serves over 200 of Veterans annually access resources to become housed, connected, and self-sufficient. The full Nation’s Finest organization serves 7,000+ Veterans across Nevada, Arizona, and California.

Please reach out for more information or to interview the people involved in these homelessness programs.
