DEA Warns Public of Widespread Threat of Fentanyl Mixed with Xylazine

Press release from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration:

us drug enforcement administration logoThe U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration is warning the American public of a sharp increase in the trafficking of fentanyl mixed with xylazine. Xylazine, also known as “Tranq,” is a powerful sedative that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved for veterinary use.

“Xylazine is making the deadliest drug threat our country has ever[] faced, fentanyl, even deadlier,” said Administrator Milgram. “DEA has seized xylazine and fentanyl mixtures in 48 of 50 States. The DEA Laboratory System is reporting that in 2022 approximately 23% of fentanyl powder and 7% of fentanyl pills seized by the DEA contained xylazine.”

Xylazine and fentanyl drug mixtures place users at a higher risk of suffering a fatal drug poisoning. Because xylazine is not an opioid, naloxone (Narcan) does not reverse its effects. Still, experts always recommend administering naloxone if someone might be suffering a drug poisoning. People who inject drug mixtures containing xylazine also can develop severe wounds, including necrosis—the rotting of human tissue—that may lead to amputation.

According to the CDC, 107,735 Americans died between August 2021 and August 2022 from drug poisonings, with 66 percent of those deaths involving synthetic opioids like fentanyl. The Sinaloa Cartel and Jalisco Cartel in Mexico, using chemicals largely sourced from China, are primarily responsible for the vast majority of the fentanyl that is being trafficked in communities across the United States.

FDA recently communicated to health care providers about the risks to patients exposed to xylazine in illicit drugs. A copy of that communication can be found here: FDA alerts healthcare professionals of risks to patients exposed to xylazine in illicit drugs.

If I was in charge, the border, north and south would be absolutely militarized..
With the machinery we gave away to that boy in Ukraine.
nothing against the Ukrainian people, but our borders come first.

Considering the cartels have unlimited money, they use underground tunnels, planes, boats, and pay off US government officials, putting military at the border would do nothing to stop drugs from coming over. It sounds like you want military there to keep out poor Latinos looking for a better life out. I wonder if it were Canadian coming over, willing to work low paying jobs nobody wants, if anyone in the US would care since they are white..

I am all for Upping the DEA’ amd Border
patrols ability to go after the cartels
With every possible option. Canyon Oaks suggestions makes as much sense as Putin bombing and raping Ukraine to rubble under the guise
Of going after Nazis. I hope the
Idiocy of that example is apparent.

Ahhh, the United Nations and all those who sign on to that very proposal, including the Democrat Party. Prove me wrong. The border is wide open. Anybody can come in right now and that is an undisputed fact. Wiggle words like checked migration are games played by politicians. Currently, we are checking those who want to cross, taking their names if they have a real name, and telling them to come back in 2 to 5 years for a status hearing. Yea, right. I would never come back, hell no. That is not checked migration, that is let everyone in and worry about them later. Those making those decisions will be long gone and sitting on Fortune 500 Company boards, living caviar wishes and champagne dreams. No more games democrats and gutless Rinos, just stop the bs. This country belongs to all those here currently as well as future natural born citizens along with those who applied and gained citizenship. Nothing more, nothing less. And yes, some of the best humans I work and have worked with our undocumented people from Mexico. Good people who want to make a life and support their families back home. I would substitute them in a minute for some of native born turds lingering in the Humboldt County toilet bowl.

The border is not wide open. Not anybody can come right in. Your statement isn’t just disputable, it’s flat out false. 2.3 million arrests last year- because it’s not an open border. https://www.texastribune.org/2022/09/19/u-s-mexico-border-arrests-record-2022/
Hundreds of migants dying trying to ender- because it’s not an open border. https://www.texastribune.org/2022/09/19/u-s-mexico-border-arrests-record-2022/
Sure, it’s not air-tight. Nothing is. But, considering that a couple grams of Fentanyl can be lethal and that thousands of semi trucks cross the border each day, no amount of border security will ever be able to stop the supply. Maybe we should, instead, be focusing on reducing the demand here at home.

No such thing as an “open border”, unless you’re traveling within the United States. If you think it’s open, try a week in Tijuana and simply walking back into the US!

The State of California for one. It even has a State funded program like SSI for illegal immigrants. Centro del Pueblo in Arcata talks about immigration but supports protection from “overzealous enforcement” , by which they mean any immigration law enforcement.

The amount of drugs coming in with immigrants is tiny. Give me a break. It makes a great news byte on Faux or with idiot republicans but the bottom line is these poor people are not the problem.

Unfortunately, history shows most of the personnel you throw at the border are vulnerable to corruption. Most of the drugs that come in drive right past a paid off CBP agent. Those kids selling Chiclets are relaying to drivers who’s working at which lane. The people most projecting the Drug Warrior posture are often the very ones gettn the big loads through. Look deep into Joe Arpaio’s past as a cross border “drug warrior”, setting up the various revolving door paramilitary interdiction/import squads in Mexico.

Anyone who hires an illegal worker pays the fine that totals what costs, including court costs, the government to either deport them and/or the cost of government services such as school, medical care, tax fraud, jail, public defender, etc. Make it important to check carefully (or basically at all) and people will see they have the right documentation.

Actually the Canada border is becoming more of a problem. Just more for them. “It’s become a pressing political priority and major federal-provincial irritant, with Canada eager to slow the flow of migrants entering on foot from the U.S. at unofficial points of entry, such as the contentious one at Roxham Road, south of Montreal. ”

Yes if over 5000 people were illegally crossing the Canadian border every day and large amounts of very deadly drugs were being smuggled across I would certainly want better boarder security.

And when there’s thousands of people a day overdosing on cocaine I think that should become a priority to stop.. when illegal Crossings in that sector of the Border start to outpace Illegal Crossings in the southern border then that should become the priority to stop..

You are right “immigrants” are not the problem, people breaking our laws are the problem. Laws that only apply to a percentage of the population are a problem. I have no problem with people that immigrate to the United States and follow the laws like everyone else. I do have a problem with cheaters that brake laws, illegally come here, break more laws and get benefits that my ancestors have paid for for Generations without putting in their fair share. Benefits I don’t qualify for because I’m a legal citizen that works full-time..

‘Jobs Americans won’t do’ is the old bush/Clinton/corporate argument for cheap labor immigration.
Also, Isn’t it the poor immigrants that move product for the cartels into this country? Not all, not all, not all, but plenty?
If you’ve followed the subject over the years it’s pretty apparent how product gets from point A to B.
And I disagree with your racial argument.

It doesn’t come with illegal immigrants and and more US citizens participate in the drug trade as immigrants. Legalize it!!!We cannot stop drugs no matter what we do. TREATMENT AND EDUCATION actually work to reduce drug use. Making things illegal simply makes it more profitable and we spend our time chasing our tails spending billions of dollars with no effect. This has been proven time and time again.

Our Border has had serious drug interdiction for 50 years. Fentanyl is extremely small and the cartels have a myriad of way to get it here. That ‘Boy’ in Ukraine and his people
are defeating our biggest enemy of the last 70 years, without the loss of a single American life, for 10% of the yearly military budget. You sound tough, but really it’s nationalistic fear you have. It’s a reoccurring issue that brings out the worst in Americans throughout our history.

You got that right. This is beyond ridiculous and you cannot blame anybody in the world trying to get here. We are called racist haters by our own politicians on one side. Continuously. That is diabolical because folks from Equatorial Africa, Iran, North Korea and every other third world country will die to have a chance at America. Hence, their entire premise is false. Stop listening to Gollum ring grabbers.
Our Special Forces could eliminate the threat in about 1 month. We have done it before all the way to Mexico City, and we can do it again. Otherwise, forget this whole political game and just make Mexico the 52nd through 70th states

Just remember who fights and dies in our military. Children of Mexican immigrants, and citizens of our “protectorates” like Puerto Rico, and the various South Pacific islands contribute disproportionately to America’s military service.

You know that is unconstitutional? ANd do you really think that is going to stop anything? Most drugs from Mexico don’t come from migrants, but in commercial deliveries or other ways. You would fail just like everyone else to control drugs and Russia would be marching across Europe.

You think it’s unconstitutional to use the military to secure our borders? I’m pretty sure that was the reason why the military was instituted in the first place. We weren’t to have a standing army for any longer then two years without a reason,we were just supposed to have a Navy too…That’s right, protect our borders.. Article 4 section 4. You’re referring to the Posse Comitatus act which was meant to keep States or the federal government from using the Army to police their citizens. But no worries Obama’s executive order 13528 subverted the Posse Comitatus Act..

“The synthetic opioid fentanyl, which kills about 70,000 Americans per year, is mainly manufactured in Mexico with precursor chemicals smuggled in from China.

López Obrador has claimed that Mexico doesn’t produce fentanyl — something most experts disagree with — and that the U.S. has a fentanyl problem because American families don’t hug their kids enough.

López Obrador thundered against the U.S. proposals. “Mexico is a free and independent country, not a colony or protectorate of the United States,” he said, shouting: “Cooperation, yes, submission, no!”

While the US cries about racism and woke policies, the rest of the world is moving on to the BRICS payment system, including Mexico. Today Russia wiped 40 billion in debt for Africa. The petro dollar is over and the petroyuan is up and coming. China and Russia just signed a cooperation agreement, and BRICS countries control 60% of the world’s energy. Germany and other NATO countries are still buying Russian energy on the down low. You can’t keep printing money in a failed system, and expect everyone to go along with it. My advice, invest in BRICS, and learn to speak Chinese.

Maybe it’s time to declare this a public health and national security EMERGENCY! Duh! The Chinese and the cartels are to blame, let’s hold them accountable for the narco synthetic opioid bombing campaign they have been unleashing on our country. We are loosing too many people, let alone young people in the prime of their lives. We lost 58,000 US soldiers in the Vietnam War, we are losing 100,000 + citizens every year now, and the teens are seeing the fastest rising fatal OD rates. C’mon leaders and healthcare administrators, it’s time for ACTION! LET”S GO !!!!

How hard would it be for the DEA to hire an eighth grader to compare xylazine consumption by Veterinarians, vs. what’s being produced, or imported?

It’s here. In the Valley too. we need new narcan guidelines from Public Health, xylazine doesn’t respond to narcan. If you see someone OD’d on this shit and narcan them make sure they are breathing and support their airway. Too much narcan is not good. If you see someone with the necrotic, rotting wounds, please send them to the ER for treatment because they can lead to amputations.

Is this the DEA that has wasted billions on their “war on drugs”? There are more drugs of better quality on the streets now than there have ever been. The “war” has been an abject failure. Defund the impotent DEA.

The real issue is the industrial supply of precursor chemicals coming from China – nothing on that scale happens there without high-level government awareness – they are complicit.
