North Coast Open Studios is accepting artist and artisan manufacturer registrations for 2023. The 23rd annual event, which runs the weekends of June 3-4 and June 10-11, with a kick-off art night on Friday, June 2, includes artists and artisans from all over Humboldt County.

NCOS, a DreamMaker project of the nonprofit Ink People Center for the Arts, is an opportunity for artists to make personal connections with the public—visitors get to see how the creative process works and talk to artists about inspiration and methods in the creators’ natural habitats. NCOS is also a great opportunity for artists to showcase new projects.

In 2022, after two years of postponed events, nearly 100 local artists opened their studios to the public, between Loleta and Trinidad, and east to Blue Lake.

“So many artists in this area really count on North Coast Open Studios to connect with art lovers around the community, so that two-year break was a real challenge” says NCOS coordinator Monica Topping. “Last year’s priority was safely bringing back the event for the artists. This year, we get to put time into outreach, making sure that artists know that if they want to participate, we want them!”

North Coast Open Studios is open to artists of all ages and all media, and welcomes all creative spaces – from dining room table to garage, rented studio to plein air “studio.”

Youth and up-and-coming artists for whom the registration fee is a challenge, may contact Topping about a subsidized guidebook listing.

The deadline to register for NCOS is Sat., April 1, for the June event.

A link to online registration is available at www.northcoastopenstudios.com. For more information about North Coast Open Studios or for assistance registering, email [email protected] or call the Ink People at (707) 442-8413.

This is one of the great, interactive art events of the year in Humboldt. I have attended this here and in 2 other communities. It’s always a privilege to meet artists in, and to see their studio spaces. (Good place to make deal! Cut out the middle person).
Nice to see Georgia featured. She is a former So Hum resident and KMUD programmer who has stayed true to pursuing her artistic passions. Just one example of the quality people we can meet in this fun event. (Ideally people would ride bikes or other carbon free transportation between the venues ;).
