Mini Tsunami in the Van Duzen After Cliff Face Falls

Maureen Smithey and her husband went for a walk from their place down by the Van Duzen River west of Swimmers Delight in Humboldt County, California about 11:30 this morning when a falling cliff face caused a mini tsunami.

According to Smithey, “We were hearing all kinds of rocks falling from the cliffs.” She started taking video and a large chunk collapsed. The displaced water rushed towards the couple.

“It caused a mini tsunami,” Smithey told us. “I got a good douse of water down my boots.”

And, we have to admit, the hair on our head stood up watching this!

Wow. That was impressive. This happened to my yard two years before I moved here. I live on the VanDuzen.

Great video! I hope Maureen Smithey and her husband find some higher ground to walk on. After that boots full of water you would not catch me standing there watching the rocks fall.
