March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month

Press release from Redwoods Rural Health Center:

Redwoods Rural Health center logoTop 5 Reasons to get your colorectal cancer screening today:

  1. The rate of colorectal cancer in people younger than 50 has doubled since the 1990s.
  2. Polyps or early colorectal cancers often have no signs or symptoms. Screening is the only way to find out.
  3. Screening helps find polyps early, so they can be removed before turning into cancer.
  4. Screening also helps find cancers early when the treatment works best. In fact, when caught in its earliest stages, colorectal cancer is 90% curable!
  5. If you have a family history of colorectal cancer, you are at an increased risk.

There are simple, affordable, even free screening options, including tests that can be done at home. Most insurance plans cover the preventive screening under the Affordable Care Act.

If you’re age 45 or older, it’s time for that screening. Call your Provider now. If you’re a Redwoods Rural Health Center patient, call 707-923-2783 and we will mail you a simple test kit to do at home – no office visit required!

Went in to get tested 3-01-23 results came back positive for colon cancer, no other red flags or other cancers. Surgery on 3-24-23 to rid the cancer and start a new chapter
The testing was easy first a blood test plus stool sample. Sample came back positive for blood in stool (not visible to the eye) then a ct scan of the area. Came back pos. For a 5cm mass 1.5 cm thick. Biopsy came back pos. For cancer.
Never really had any problems or symptoms. Started having side cramps, saw a chiropractor for two months with no effect. Went to see my primary.
If caught early enough you can go on to live a long and normal life. Please get checked early.

Having a Colonoscopy periodically isn’t my idea of fun, but it can and will save your life and that’s what counts.
