If 101 closes at Cook Rd, we’re pretty isolated.

Garberville Airport is ready for any and all necessary emergency incoming flights. REACH Air Ambulance has no problems flying in and out for necessary medical emergencies. All is well. Help can get in and out.

well the weather can be a hinderance to the GBV AP. Need a pilot willing to come in and out of there in such inclement weather. But I’m with you on this on – the airport is wonderful option. My home away form home once upon a time.

Do they do anything to prevent or mitigate this kind of flooding or is the road just closed until the water subsides?

The river just goes over the roadway, floods the road..the river is very close to the highway there

I have lived up 36 for over 30 years and this spot floods every time we get a substantial rain. Why can’t Cal Trans ever fix this? Surely after all this time they can use eminent domain to force the reluctant landowner to allow the necessary fix.

That section really only causes an issue once every two-three years in a big storm. The creek overflows and floods the roadway in a dipped section of the road. It’s easily crossed in a 4x vehicle. I’ve even seen a few cars make it through.

there was a design made by CalTrans and HRC but it involved a ditch to the Van Duzen floodplain and CDFW said no.

The small closed section is easily passable in a small 4×4 truck.
