In the early morning dark, about 4 a.m., a semi crashed into the Gasquet post office and a power pole. The driver was trapped with major injuries. Electricity went out to the town.

According to the CHP Traffic Incident Information Page, the driver had a broken leg and was bleeding.

Rescuers freed the driver and he was taken to the hospital.

According to a local resident, Bobbi O’Reilley, who took the photos, she believes that in a somewhat ironic twist that the semi “is a mail truck” traveling from Medford to Eureka.

Tough dangerous drive…to take our mail out of the way. Another reason this is silly. I still wonder why taking it to Medford makes more sense than Redding, or to the Bay.

I would rather drive 199 from Crescent City to Grant’s Pass than 299 from Eureka to Redding. Shorter drive and 199 is pretty easy except for maybe a half hour that is kind of tight.

That doesn’t make sense, the truck is facing the wrong direction in order for him to be taking it to Medford.. The truck is facing as if it’s headed towards the coast. I dunno 🤷🏻‍♂️

The road doesn’t look snowy or icy. Did he fall asleep at the wheel?

Might have been going too damn fast for the dark night and extreme winter conditions, road cleared or not. What is going on? The driver at Confusion Hill on 101 a short while ago looked like a rocket on the video. Don’t drivers get trained and certified?

I drove through as the ambulance was leaving. The road was completely clear. Had to have fallen asleep or a medical emergency.

On another note, I was just 3 or 4 miles from Crescent City on my way to 199. There was a pedestrian with a blanket standing on the shoulder of the road. As I approached the individual turned and walked right in front of me. I wasn’t sure if it was a tweaker or a suicide with but I managed to avoid the collision.

This seems to happen to you a lot. 3 or 4 miles from crescent city, so right in the middle of the redwood park ? Hmm.

Why is it described as a “Big Rig” or ” Semi Truck” when it is neither of these? It’s a straight box truck, no trailer, orctandem rear axles, so not a semi, or a big rig!
