[UPDATE 11:14 a.m.] Missing Man Found Deceased

Carrol Johnson, a former local and a commercial fisherman traveling from Santa Cruz to his home in Washington State, who went missing after docking in Humboldt Bay, has been found deceased.

According to a post by Kristen Prince, shared with us by his daughter, Robin Renner, “My family and I want to thank everyone for the kindness you’ve all shown us the past week. Last night the search for our father came to tragic end. His body was recovered so we will now begin to process, grieve, and heal from the loss of our dad.”
His daughter Robin Renner told us, “Thank you for all your help. I am forever grateful that we have him and he’s not out there somewhere.”
UPDATE 11:14 a.m.: Arcata Police have stated,
On February 7th, 2023, Arcata Police Department Detectives located 69-year-old Washington resident, Carroll Johnson, deceased, along Highway 101 north of Orick Ca.
The Arcata Police Department had been investigating Mr. Johnson’s disappearance since he was reported missing by his family on January 31st, 2023. The investigation led detectives to search the area where Mr. Johnson was ultimately located.
The investigation into the cause of Mr. Johnson’s death is ongoing.
Anyone having additional information related to Mr. Johnson’s death is encouraged to contact the Arcata Police Department at (707)822-2428.

Respect to the family for their very gracious comment given the tragic outcome of this case. Is it too much to ask that anyone commenting here show the same respect to the family that they’ve shown to the community?
I totally respect the family in their time of grief and great tragedy! This is horrible news, I was really hoping he would be found ok. 😓
However if he was murdered I feel we as citizens of the town should be told.

I’m so glad I just moved out of that lawless town! I heard Carrol went missing, my car was broken into the next day, and then the next, then they find him deceased!! I’m so out!! Eureka is a joke and no one should visit that place, even if your passing through. Unless you want your car broken into. 🙄

It’s all bad. I feel for the family but if he was murdered, the citizens deserve to know. So we can all leave! Or take measures to protect ourselves since the police seem to be doing such a great job of things on their own. 🙄🤦🏻♀️
Again I respect the family’s privacy, and if it wasn’t murder than ok. If it was we have a right to know as citizens living in that area! No? It’s a touchy issue. There is nothing in the reporting that says he was murdered. Only that he was found deceased near prick 101. How is this automatically murder? And yea it wasn’t Eureka where he was last seen. The Arcata police were investigating. Maybe you meant “the new Eureka “ ARCATA.

Most definitely. His daughters and their Mother are wonderful people. Mr Johnson was a great guy too even though his experience at sea had a profound affect on him.

So, so very sorry and sad. I knew Carroll years ago, in the mid-70s. He was a young man, a tough fisherman and he had the most beautiful boat, the Lettie M which he worked very hard. My home is filled with pictures of our (owned or worked on) own boats. The only one that isn’t one of ours is a picture of the Lettie M. I’ve been looking at it a lot these past few days. My heart is broken for his family.

If he was highly intoxicated and ODed on Fentanyl then how did he get himself lying along highway 101. He didn’t get there by himself. Obviously he was put there.
