New Owner of Phoenix Ceramic & Fire Supply Celebrates by Expanding Hours and Offerings
Lifelong Humboldt resident, Lily Haas, purchased Phoenix Ceramic & Fire Supply, a ceramic supply shop, last October from Noel Munn who ran the Arcata business for the 24 years prior. Haas, a ceramic artist herself, is looking forward to carrying on the success of the well-known shop as well as expanding the business’s hours and offerings.
Haas developed a passion for ceramics as a student at South Fork High School under the tutelage of Scott Harrison. She went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in Arts at Humboldt State University, now Cal Poly Humboldt. A frequent patron of Phoenix Ceramic and Fire Supply, Haas happened to inquire about the shop at an opportune time for Munn. “The timing lined up perfectly,” Haas said.
The shop located in Arcata’s Creamery Arts District at 824 L Street, is the only supply store of its kind in the area. “The shop serves artists, teachers, and students from Southern Oregon to Redding to Southern Humboldt, as we are the only supply shop for our niche industry for a 200 mile radius,” Haas stated.
Haas has expanded business hours that had been reduced since the beginning of the pandemic, offering the shop’s supplies Monday thru Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with plans to offer Saturday shopping in the future. In addition to the store hours, Haas, a sculptor, will be offering classes, workshops, and presentations with guest teachers in the future.
Haas said that Humboldt is home to many talented ceramic artists and is known throughout the state for the ceramic art produced in the area. The community has embraced Haas in her new role. “The local ceramics community has been very supportive of the new ownership and expansion of the business and I am excited to formally celebrate the business’s new chapter with this event,” she wrote.
A ribbon cutting celebration from 1-4 p.m. on February 3 will be held at Phoenix Ceramic & Fire Supply in Arcata in honor of the change of ownership of the longtime business. The ribbon cutting will feature refreshment, free glazes, a raffle, giveaways, and discount coupons. All are welcome.

Good luck to her. Ive been self employed for two decades and its no joke. Early mornings late evenings and there is always a new pandemic or recession or a complaining client but……Its better than having someone riding my ass right into every weekend.
Agreed, give your all and you’ll succeed. Ignore it for one second and it will crumble.
Lily Haas’ imaginative and incredibly detailed creations of local fauna and flora are among the best ceramics in current Humboldt art! May she continue to flourish with this major jump into the local clay world’s earthy sources! Congrats!!
Cool, i love that store!
Another wonderful Humboldt business! Thanks for the article.
This is awesome! People can continue to make their own pipes and bongs to smoke the plethora of cheap swag as Humboldt’s dope industry swirls around the toilet!
Wowzer! Her pieces are beautiful and so detailed. I hope her new venture brings her much success!
Love the pictures!
Huge Congrats Lily! How exciting! Love, your midwife Lily
