Huffman Elected Ranking Member of Water, Wildlife, and Fisheries Subcommittee

Press release from the Office of Congressman Huffman:

[Yesterday], the Democratic members of the House Committee on Natural Resources elected Congressman Jared Huffman (D-San Rafael) to serve as the Ranking Member of the Water, Wildlife, and Fisheries Subcommittee. Rep. Huffman previously served as the Chair of the formerly titled Water, Oceans, and Wildlife Subcommittee in the 116th and 117th Congresses when Democrats held the House majority.

Rep. Huffman (right) stands with fellow Natural Resources ranking members following elections.

“I’m honored to be elected as Ranking Member for the Water, Wildlife, and Fisheries Subcommittee as we continue our critical work tackle some of the most challenging conservation policy problems of our time,” said Rep. Huffman. “Over the past four years, we have done extraordinary work to improve the health of our oceans and economy of our coastal communities, respond to the threat of climate change on water supplies, and advance smart solutions to natural resources challenges. In the 118th Congress, I will use every tool at our disposal to not only build on that progress but push back against Republican attempts to dismantle the great work we’ve done. Democrats will remain laser focused on addressing the increasingly dire impacts of our changing climate and ensuring environmental equity for all communities.”

The Water, Wildlife, and Fisheries Subcommittee is responsible for overseeing the agencies that manage America’s water resources, hydropower development, and federal transmission lines. Democrats on the subcommittee are committed to managing, developing, and improving America’s water supply in an environmentally and economically sound manner. Democrats are also dedicated to developing our domestic energy resources by promoting affordable, environmentally-sustainable hydroelectricity.

The Subcommittee is also charged with developing and overseeing the implementation of laws managing domestic and international fisheries and other marine resources. The United States has made great strides in making fisheries more economically and environmentally sustainable, as well as in protecting vulnerable ocean ecosystems and species like sharks, whales, and coral. Much remains to be done, however, particularly in light of the threats climate change poses to our oceans and coasts.

He’s a liar. If he plans on hydroelectricity, then why is he on the bandwagon to undam the Klamath? He’s as two faced as they come. If he’s supporting ocean health, why hasn’t he come out against the offshore wind turbine farms? The Democrats don’t care, never have, never will.

Are offshore wind farms shown to disturb Ocean health? Your question assumed it’s a given.

The federal govt assumes wind farms will harm ocean life since it explicitly gave written permission to the East coast wind project to harm sea mammals during the setup phase of that project.

May be a coincidence but there has been a sharp rise in whale deaths on the East coast recently while the wind project has been starting (doing huge amount of sonar mapping that could damage whales). Federal govt says it can be proven that damage to whales that is consistent with injuries that high power sonar could cause originated from the wind project sonar.

Precautionary principle says let’s proceed cautiously and test thoroughly so that we know we are not going to endanger sea mammals with these huge, bleeding edge wind projects.

Normal engineering practice is to do small volume field testing to prove that a product works well (more like expose problems that have to be fixed😁) before going to commercial volume. Of course you can’t expect innumerate politicians and their grifter partners to follow best engineering practice when there are vast amounts of our tax $ to corruptly spread around.

Meant to say:

Federal govt says that it cannot be proven that damage to whales that is consistent with injuries that high power sonar causes was caused by the wind project sonar.

Neither party cares, politicians are mostly power hungry mediocre volume liars. The best approach is to not trust them and give them as little power and $ as possible. Don’t let one political party dominate your state cuz that is a guaranteed path to massive corruption.

The dams on the Klamath are not producing enough electricity to compensate for the huge environmental harm caused by their presence. We can and should develop hydro power that doesn’t negatively affect fish populations.

All of our efforts to produce energy must be balanced against the overall harm they can cause. Fossil-fueled power plants are creating a world that won’t be recognizable by the turn of the next century.

You can either bury your head in the political sands of conservatism or you can actively try to figure out solutions to the problems we face. There are no perfect solutions to supporting 8 billion humans on the planet.

(S)he knows he/she is out in far side of right field, like so many here — can’t see the forest for the trees, confusing climate change as weather events that have happened before. It’s like blaming the government for potholes then shredding government for taxes (that fill potholes, when there’s enough money, that is, to do so).

It’s not just electric dams provide. They collect water for future use. If you were awake during the major storms and flooding last month, California residents are beating up politicians for not having infrastructure in place to store all that water. It’s not in any way good stewardship of our resources to remove water storage. As far as fish go, there’s no true science behind the dams being the problem. That is fabrication of lies. We need more fresh water storage, not less.

Obviously true. A huge chunk of our rainfall is from atmospheric rivers (AR). If the AR rainfall is not captured in reservoirs or aquifers, it goes back out to sea and is of no use during our annual droughts.

There’s been documented overfishing going on for years. That is the problem, not dams. Keep believing the environmental wackos if you want. They’ve never used sound science. Nor have Democrats.

“Fossil-fueled power plants are creating a world that won’t be recognizable by the turn of the next century.”

If you mean the earth will be much greener cuz of increased co2, no doubt. Analysis of NASA photos of earth over the last 4 decades has already proven that. Huge benefit to plants, herbivores that eat those plants and to the carnivores that eat those herbivores.

If you mean earth’s population is much more affluent cause of FF and FF have helped poor nations tremendously, so true.

If you mean changing the composition of the earth’s atmosphere by 1/500,000 per year has a big impact on temperature that will lead to environmental disaster, prove it. The IPCC does not claim that.

Politicized science is not science, it is propaganda intended for innumerate, gullible people.

Why is a lawyer from Marin County representing Humboldt and Del Norte counties? Answer: the democrats gerrymandered the district with a snake like worm running up the coast from Marin, snaking up a narrow band along Sonoma and Mendo coasts and then blobbing out into Humboldt and Del Norte. It’s bunk and a scam to take a representative from us and plop down some invasive species from Marin. This guy reps nothing but rich marxist democrats from Uber wealthy Marin. As for Humboldt snd Del Norte, he thinks we are a joke to be used for wind farms and other utopian bs. Hey Huffer, why no wind farm proposals right off Sausilto and Stinson Beach or under the Golden Gate, a very windy location. They have the port infrastructure in place right now. I think we all know the answer, The Marin elite will have no part of that and want it stuck up here off our coasts. Out of sight, out of mind. And the cherry on top is we will not even get any benefit, the electricity will be going east and south, including to Marin County. We are left with a wet paperbag with remnants of gold paint.

Isn’t Sausalito on the wrong side of the coast? The rich people side? The Ocean side, is for the tourists. If wind energy is a future economic advantage then I don’t mind snaking it from the Rich, Capitalist, Marxist, ocean destroying Earthfirsters, Democrat, Anarcho-commu-socialist-thoseYou People in Marin.

Our congressional district is shaped by a nonpartisan commission, not political party gerrymandering.
the clearance under the Golden Gate Bridge is about 500 feet, not tall enough for wind towers to fit under, however Humboldt Bay has no impediment to the towers. Hence they chose to build here. The wind resource exceeds that of any area further south

Does anyone else notice that Democrats talk about themselves a lot? Deliberately uninformed, incorrect with things like facts, all the while their lies are taken by other Democrats as truth and spread like toxins ruining the Country.

Humboldt Bay Harbor District has already announced a contract to construct the Heavy Lift Marine Terminal. The next phase of development is expected to be the onshore portion where assembly of the towers takes place. The fully assembled towers are loaded on barges and towed to the anchorage offshore. This development is way beyond the proposal stage.

Over the past fours years we have done extraordinary work to improve economy of coastal communities. This guy is a true politician, he is going to protect us from Republicans, because he calls himself a Democrat. You can identify however you want , doesn’t change the fact that you are just another low life lying politician that feeds off of tax dollars. Keep raising taxes to support politicians, years of lousy voting has gotten us here.

Dang it, Huffman, stop sending money toward the Northcoast much less Humboldt County. We’re sick of it, the tiny fraction of tax revenues this Nation developers funding our needs up here. Let us get back to hacking things like Old Growth Redwood, gold mining, over-harvesting Salmon stocks … oh, wait …

If you want to talk about taxes try finding out how much of the county’s resources is owned by tax exempt entities. Only younthunk your praise of government’s generosity should be aware of how much that government takes for itself first?

Cetaceans, Albatrosses and Pacific Flyway migrations are incredible. Thousands of miles logged to continue moving their genes forward, all governed by natural selection combined with circumventing the matrix of until now, aerial/underwater vibrating cable man caused obstacles. Despicable. They deserve more respect.
