Two Additional Fatal Accidents Reported During the Month After Christmas

TrafficFatalityFeaturedTwo additional fatal accidents since December 25 were reported by other Humboldt County agencies, adding to the four fatalities CHP-Humboldt reported for the same time period.

Eureka Police Department spokesperson, Brittany Powell, reported that just two days after Christmas, a 30-year-old pedestrian was struck by a vehicle on Highway 101 near Herrick Avenue. The collision occurred just before 6 p.m. on December 27, when, according to Powell, the pedestrian entered the roadway prior to being struck.

“The driver was evaluated on scene and determined to not be under the influence,” wrote Powell.

On January 19, CHP-Garberville reported the death of a man driving a utility vehicle (UTV) on private property west of Alderpoint. CHP Officer, Jonathon Clevenger stated that the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to overturn. During the course of the accident, the driver was ejected and the UTV came to rest on top of him.

The driver succumbed to his injuries at the scene,” Clevenger reported.

A total of six fatalities were reported by the three agencies during the month period following the Christmas holiday. Our condolences to the families and loved ones of those lost.

I think they meant the 30-day period after Christmas, December 25 to January 25.

I almost hit someone dashing across 101 below the Herrick overpass at about 5:30pm, a few years ago. I remember it was dark enough I was noticing cars without their lights on yet. I was amazed she decided to run across the freeway instead of walking the overpass. I wondered if they had a camp in the median or something..
