The painted yellow centerline and the white shoulder lines in both directions are barely visible. At night and in the fog you can’t see anything! It’s been this way for a long time and for some reason County government won’t fix it and make it safe to drive through at night. I hope all involved recover. 😢
I think that is a state road. But Humboldt County has poorly maintained roads.
Nope that’s a county road the state road is 255 and that doesn’t go left at the stop sign after the bridge. It goes from Eureka to Arcata
The County is responsable now.
Could you call the county and tell them.. I’ve been trying to get them to do something for weeks and they say it’s not their’s
I personally would still blame the person on the wrong side of the road. It was not foggy. I live right next to 255 and a couple times in the past couple years I observed the folks commuting to work that were waiting for pilot vehicles to take them past the fiber optic construction. I was surprised at the number of people smoking drugs on their way to work. Mostly glass pipes, some that required little blow torches. In the evening people often take Peninsula for a few blocks so they can text as they drive down the center of the street. 25 years ago the CHP released a study where they claimed that 10% of California drivers were high on something at any moment in time. I am of the opinion that the percentage is higher now. Added to that is cell phone usage. As an aside I had an idea the other day. I saw a place in Arcata helping homeless people and I think handing out jackets among other things. My idea is that every jacket given to a street person should have some reflective tape sewn to it so they are safer when they walk through traffic on Broadway at night.
255 is a State Highway.
Well maintained and safe.
The county has been improving HWY 255 in Manila a d towards the bridge for months. I lived in Maila for 20 years and never had a problem seeing the lines on the road. HS anyone heard more?
There have been zero improvements, the fiber optic was installed along 255 and the trail to no where between pacific and lupin which cost upward of a million dollars was put in but absolutely no improvements the County of Humboldt hasn’t done road maintenance on the County owned roads in Manila since early 90’s and Caltrans does keep highway 255 in decent shape but the drainage ditch has been neglected for decades
What if a nice mural were painted by the trail to nowhere? They are getting ready I believe to repair the drainage by my house on Peninsula. I have spoken a few times to people involved. I don’t know when though.
Well glad Manila to the bridge is good for you because from the bridge to the jetty it is NOT!.
Where’s all that Biden infrastructure money
Off topic. Just a wee bit.
It’s in the pockets of democrats and their friends…
Most of it was voted down and gutted by the GOP as you know. One of the historical signs a civilization is in its end days is reluctance to invest in infrastructure.
Ask a Republican, they usually steal it before it gets to us.
More deferred maintenance that’s killing drivers.
There was a dog owned by one of the victims that was seriously injured. The dog needs immediate medical attention but my friend who has taken him to a veterinary hospital cannot get in touch with the owners. They cannot be reached with phone number given and the animal hospital will not give treatment nor pain medication without the owner’s consent. Please if anyone knows anything about this and can get in touch with the owners (we don’t have a name they were transported to a hospital).
Have sheriff or chp contact the vet
Try contacting the hospital, authorities
Ask the responding police agency to put you in touch with owner &/or have them verify with vet that this is indeed a dog that was in a car accident that needs help.
Thank you to you and your friend for helping the dog (which helps the injured person
They probably took them to St Joseph hospital.
Post this on Facebook with the name of the Veterinarian’s office and the dogs name where people can donate.
The dog is at Arcata Veterinary. Please send donations for his treatment! There will be a gofundme.
Hey Mary Ann I don’t know if you can pm me on Facebook I’m in direct contact with the owners. They are in the process of reinstating social media so they can get social set up a go fund me for Taz. They just got out of the hospital and are pretty devastated and traumatized. Thank you 🙏

Can you please help me share this go fund me link with anyone and everyone you know. Taz has some heafty bills and we are trying to get $$$ together to help pay back people that helped. The gentleman who was kind enough to take taz to the animal hospital needs to be payed back and they are in need of general help to care for him. They are all injured and trying to heal together.
What qualifies an accident as “major?”
Entrapment, major injuries, multiple vehicles.
Life threatening injuries unfortunately. What vehicles were these and is the dog pure white?
You probably shouldn’t discriminate at this point wait a little while
Thanks for trying to be funny but I can’t get ahold of my friend and I’m trying to make sure that wasn’t him or his dog. The dog is white as snow. Is the dog that’s at the vet pure white?
I was confused by the use of the word “entrap”, which to my mind means tricking someone into doing something felonious so they can be arrested; “trap” would seem to be sufficient when talking about being unable to get out of a car. Also, “Peninsula” is misspelled in the headline.
Thank you. I’ve removed the extra “n.” Entrapment is the word commonly used by emergency personnel in these situations. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3044585/
Maybe DANCO could have some pull? They own a whole lot of properties out there.
Free spelling lesson: Peninsula-there was a local news channel on tv that couldn’t spell Manila, sorry Nazy Javid! It’s NOT like, vanilla!
Coulda been anyone..
Very sorry for all involved. Still, I have to ask if the lights of either vehicle were on after sunset? Even on a dark, rainy or foggy night, lights on and a slower speed seem appropriate. There’s more to this story.
the car pulled out from the dunes in front of the other one which sent them rolling.
Only part of it belongs to danco , the road is state or county not dancos problem
I am just happy that no lives were lost to the accident. Hope those that were injured will make a complete recovery.
