Pedestrian Struck by a Vehicle; Southbound Broadway Blocked

Emergency lights featureAt about 7:50 p.m., a vehicle struck a pedestrian in the 4000 block of Broadway in Eureka. The pedestrian is breathing but has a head injury, according to first reports over the scanner.

Emergency personnel have closed both southbound lanes of Broadway as the injured person is being assisted.

I say its the new jaywalking is no longer a crime. People just cross wherever and whenever they like. I’ve almost hit a few people just because they come out of nowhere and start just crossing the street. Luckily I don’t drive fast anyways but people here drive fast for no reason.

They were crossing at the same rate when it was illegal. And they always had the right of way anyway.

If I have to drive at night, I am the one rolling slowly down the street. I see darkly dressed people, not necessarily poor or homeless, walking oblivious to the world, often phone in hand. Then there are the drivers that pass me on the left for being too slow. So, there is a lot to finger-point here.

Like how many? Five maybe ten this past two years. Homeless population? Bikes dashing across Broadway and 101 South?
