Kayle Joseph Nordby: ‘Everyone loved him’
Kayle Joseph Nordby was born on Norwegian Independence Day on May 17, 1942 in Butterfield, Minnesota. Kayle died at his sister Vivian’s home on October 30, 2022 in Hacienda las Olas, Pescadero Baja California Sur BCS, Mexico. He died peacefully one week after being diagnosed with stage four colon cancer. He chose not to undergo any treatment and said if God is ready to take him now, then that’s what he wanted. He died in his bedroom with a clear view of the Pacific Ocean only yards away.
Kayle had an organic farm at Pescadero where he grew flowers, herbs, and produce. He was a member of the community for more than 20 years and was known as a landmark from Pescadero to La Paz. Everyone loved him and enjoyed his sense of humor and quick smile. If you gave him the correct change for produce, you would get a free onion, a bouquet of flowers, or a papaya – whatever the whim!At one time, Kayle lived in Humboldt County in Shelter Cove. He was a member at Grace Lutheran Church in Redway, where he was instrumental in restoring the pipe organ at Grace Lutheran Church. He was supportive of many musicians and concerts that were presented at the church. He loved to sing hymns, especially It Is Well With My Soul (Peace Like a River). He will be remembered for those very special moments when he had the urge to give a little piano concert.
The Celebration of Life for Kayle is for December 18 @ 2:30 PM Baja Beans, Pescadero BCS Mexico.

All this, a good strong singing voice, and a taste for fine wine. A friend.
Happy Trails, Kayle.
Thank you for this lovely Obituary for an incredible, interesting & loving person.
it’s a sad day for me now
RIP.
Sounds like a good man. Love to all who will miss him.
Gone one week after diagnosis doesn’t seem right! Nice to read of a good life well enjoyed but could there have been more?
Likely not much more. After 80 years, Kayle faced the fact that around 14% of people of all ages with stage IV colon cancer are likely to still be alive five years after diagnosis. He was a smart man who made an informed decision. 80! Good on Kayle 🙂
Blessed to know the man, Kayle was a dear friend who was well loved by those lucky enough to have made his acquaintance. Condolences to Don & Vivian, Carl, Vernon and the congregation at Messiah Lutheran Church in Santa Cruz – We’ve lost a great friend and comrade but we all know we shall be reunited in Glory. See you then my friend.
