That would be a truck and trailer, not a semi. A Semi is a tractor/truck pulling a long trailer.
Chas, Thank You!
Someone needs to explain that a “semi” — i.e. semi-trailer — is a specific type of truck/trailer combination. Not every vehicle with more than 3 axles is a “semi”.
There is: Bob-tailed 10 wheeler; truck and trailer; tractor and semi (the tractor is usually 3 axle); tractor and doubles, which is usually a 2 axle tractor pulling a short “semi” to which is hitched a 4 wheeled full trailer. Also of course long log truck which is a specific type of truck with the trailer part properly known as a “dolly”. The long square member that connects the dolly with the “stinger” of the truck is the “reach”. The end of the reach houses the “bull – prick”. The darkest fear in the heart of every long truck driver is that he`ll pull out his “bull prick”.
Kym, PLEASE get these terms straight. Mis – labeling truck types is a grevious and terrible sin.
Got it from the CHP site. To be honest, I’m so tired from lack of sleep that while I might try to learn these important differences, I’m pretty sure it isn’t going to happen.
Thanks to LoCO for mirroring the CHP Traffic Incident Information Page so I was able to take this screenshot.
The cops are pretty loose with language.
Your article headline is fine with me Kim. I call all those big rigs “Semi’s.”
IMHO Stuff: Load might have shifted, weight moves over against the straps and and the trailer capsizes.
Much more likely that driver left the road and went up the hillside before coming back on the asphalt. That usually happens when you take your eyes off the road.
Yeah. Before I looked at the photo and thought the load was initially dumped off the side of the road, then the trailer came back and dumped the rest of the load in the middle of the lane.
But now taking a closer look… appears the FD had shoveled the concrete up off the roadway.
You have no idea how it happened, so immediately the driver is to blame!
Your right the road definitely looks blocked
If y’all want to have fun try hauling hay on doubles in the mountains
Glad no one was hurt. The road was to shiney and new anyway, it needed some seasoning.
