Man Arrested in Road Rage Incident, Says HCSO
This is a press release from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office. The information has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty:
On Sept. 29, 2022, at about noon, Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the area of Fenwick Avenue in Samoa for the report of a road rage incident.
A 22-year-old male victim was transported to a local hospital with injuries as a result of the incident. During their investigation, deputies learned that the victim was driving in the Samoa area when he was confronted by another driver at a four-way intersection. According to the victim, the driver, 45-year-old Kevin Dewayne Willoughby, followed the victim to his workplace and began arguing with him about a perceived traffic violation. At some point during this incident, Willoughby reportedly physically assaulted the victim and then fled the area.
Deputies located Willoughby at a residence on Sunset Street in Samoa. Willoughby was taken into custody after a brief struggle and was booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on charges of battery with serious bodily injury (PC 243(d)) and resisting a peace officer (PC 148(a)(1)).

I was driving on the 101 heading to Trinidad doing about 66 mph just past the airport when a pack of vehicles came flying past me. It was like I was driving 20 mph. They must of been going 80+ mph. There was this giant older black dodge type full sized truck that seemed to be road raging. He was trying to pass 2 vehicles and all 3 were swerving in and out of lanes like it was a race. The other 2 vehicles were cars. They were driving bumper to bumper at super high speeds. The truck floored it and a bunch of black smoke was pouring out of the exhaust as he passed the other 2 vehicles. It was insane, especially after it only being a few days since the vehicle fatality in the same zone. We need more highway patrol presence on a consistent bases in Northern Humboldt. It seems to me the high speed, agreessive, road rage type driving is only increasing along with what seems like hundreds of additional vehicles on the roadways now compared to the past. Local law enforcement needs to step it up to keep our roads safe. There’s a rumor that law enforcement doesn’t like Steve Madrone & wanted Dodd to win for supervisor instead and that’s why the police presence in Trinidad has diminished since the election. I hope that 🙏 rumor is not true……
A similar situation recently on top of the hill going north towards CR from Loleta. Some asshole in a newer overpriced pickup with heavily tinted windows didn’t like everyone going the speed limit. He nearly ran me off the road.
It seems pretty common now. 80 is the new 65. I set my cruise control at 68 and my speedometer is certified accurate. At least 1/2 of the cars pass me very quickly and since in California, we don’t realize what blinkers are for, we never see them. I am thinking of hiring someone just to ride shotgun. I see the police on the road and they also pass me but it seems what’s going on in town keeps them too busy to worry about driving idiots. Gosh, do you think it might be related to all the accidents with deaths and injuries that we have?
So your certified as breaking the law. Glad to hear it. Maybe you could hire a LEO to sit shotgun to write you your ticket.

Crazy! I can remember running that stretch 40 years ago at 140mph and not seeing one car,it was awesome. Now you’ve got a 64 mph car in the slow lane and a 65 mph car in the camped out in the passing lane. I just sit back and watch the entertainment. People trying to slow down the speeding drivers, crack me up.
Extremely accurate. People around here are absolutely CLUELESS to traffic laws and have no consideration for anyone else on the roads.
Many drivers of big 4 x 4s are actually two-year-olds in soggy diapers.

And there are no mega grows in Westhaven either, huh. Dude, why do you want more police around Trinidad? There already is a resident deputy stationed at the old police station in town. There is hardly anything for him to do as it is now. He must be bored out of his mind. I see chp every day on 101 up north in that area. You guys crack me up because on one hand it is ban the police and on the other it is we want more police when it directly effects my bubble world. Pro tip——You are not getting anymore police, now or later. Eating soup outside in the rain is a futile effort. Instead. I suggest practicing axe throwing in the rain in Trinidad.
Funny, isn’t it. More cops are great, till the start busting you instead of the people you want them too.
Humboldt is also the absolute worst for people driving side by side on the highway with absolute no consideration whatsoever to the people behind you that are trying to pass. If you are NOT PASSING, get THE FUCK OUT OF THE LEFT LANE!!!!!

I’m too lazy to take it out of cruise control, but also to lazy to push the gas to pass fast. Don’t worry I’m going over the posted limit, but dgf about why you need to be somewhere faster.
Maybe leave sooner if you have deadlines.
Ain’t that the truth. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been on my way to work and got caught behind some drunk and/or high idiot who has no business being on the road in the first place (probably being intoxicated and unemployed) driving BELOW the speed limit just to be a jerk to all of the people delayed in traffic behind to them thanks to the idiot moving in slow motion.
In the 1980’s, about 11 pm on a Monday night I was driving out of Ventura heading North to my home in Santa Barbara after watching a Monday Night Football game that had been played in Los Angeles. The 101 was pretty empty and I was going over 80 in my overloaded Ford F-250 work truck. A Lincoln Continental passed me going well over a 100 mph and I espied the driver was a big fat fellow I had just watched announce the game on TV, confirmed by his vanity license plate saying MADDEN. A couple of miles North he was getting a ticket from a CHP. I heard later that he did not fly and drove like that all over the country to get to Monday Night Football televised games. Coincidentally the only speeding ticket I ever received was within a mile of where he was pulled over.
