Walker Fire Tears Through 109 Acres of Wildland South of Willits Before Firefighters Gain Control
By sunset, the fire burned 109 acres and the fire’s forward progress was stopped. This morning’s Incident Update from CAL FIRE indicates the fire is 25% contained.
One of the northbound lanes of Highway 101 was closed during the incident, slowing the afternoon commute for residents. Throughout today, firefighters will be mopping up the area and patrolling the area watching for any flare ups. A sizable firefighter response converged on the Walker Fire including ten fire engines, four water tenders, two hand crews, and numerous air resources. A total of 108 firefighters joined the effort.A myriad of agencies contributed to the firefight including Laytonville Volunteer Fire Department, City of Willits, Little Lake Fire District, Hopland Fire Protection District, Potter Valley Fire District, California Highway Patrol, Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office, California Department of Transporation, Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, California Conservation Corps, and the California National Guard.

Any news on what caused it? There were what appeared to be arson set fires in that general area every year it seems recently. Keep your eyes out folks!
