Alleged Arsonist Arrested for Avenue of the Giants Fire

Cal Fire Public Information Officer, Jeremy Ward said, “Our dispatch received a report of a small fire, …the report said somebody was pouring gasoline to the area.”
When Cal Fire personnel arrived on scene, CHP had already detained a suspect approximately a quarter of a mile from the incident.
“After questioning the individual and based on witness statements, and what occurred at the fire, Mr. Akins was placed under arrest for arson,” Ward said.
The information has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty.
