Air quality yesterday in Willow Creek was well above the hazardous level- 762
Firing operations are great for protecting structures and we are grateful. But firing for fuels reduction at this time of year? This smoke year after year is eventually going to kill us and the animals too. We saw a bird just drop from the sky and die two years ago when they were firing on the Red Salmon Complex. The air quality numbers were up over 1200
(Greater than 300 is hazardous)
Shouldn’t there be a point in air quality levels where they should stop firing except in structure defense?
If I want to burn on my land I have to check with the Northcoast Air quality department to make sure it’s not a day where I would choke my neighbors with smoke.
Another point is that we were running a generator last year for power during the Monument and Knob fires. (The PG&E lines had burned up.) Our generator has a shut off sensor when the air quality is bad- this is a feature to protect someone who might be running a generator indoors from killing themselves. Our generator was outside and kept shutting off because of hazardous smoke.
The artificial intelligence knew the air was deadly.
