This is a press release from the California Highway Patrol. The information has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty:

On August 12, 2022, at approximately 7:11 PM, a gold Toyota Tundra driven by Tyson Young was traveling southbound on US-101, south of Dora Creek. A maroon KIA Sedona, driven by Joe Kencke, was traveling northbound on US-101, south of the Toyota. The Toyota crossed over the double yellow lines into the northbound lane of traffic directly into the path of the KIA, resulting in a head on collision. Upon investigation, Young was determined to be under the influence and was placed under arrest for felony DUI for causing injuries to another person. Tyson Young sustained major injuries and was transported to Sutter Santa Rosa Regional Hospital for medical care. Rebekah Kencke sustained moderate injuries and was transported to Jerold Phelps Community Hospital for medical care.  One juvenile passenger sustained major injuries and was transported to UC Davis Medical Center for medical treatment. Joe Kencke and the other two juvenile passengers were uninjured.  This ongoing investigation is being conducted by the California Highway Patrol – Garberville Area.CHP TC 8.12

DUI doesn’t necessarily mean alcohol – it covers all drugs. Could be opiates or ?? and Etoh. You never know what anyone is on behind the wheel of a vehicle.

25 years ago or so the CHP released a study where they estimated that at any time 10% of drivers on California roads are high on something. I personally believe that with legalized weed it has likely risen a little and driving around Eureka I sometimes think that the percentage here is 20% and for pedestrians about 30% except along Broadway where I am relatively certain that 127% ( + or – 7% ) of pedestrians are completely wasted.

well hellz bellz if this is the case I wish a slow and debilitating recovery for the man. He is selfish and has no care for his life, much less for the lives of others.

I was one of the first on the scene. Trust me, this fucker was drunk. Multiple beer cans, and a bottle of fireball right outside where his truck came to rest. You could smell it 10 feet away. The pathetic jackass also peed his pants.

True.

But it doesn’t change the fact that, as far as I am concerned, alcohol sucks.

And it’s a hard lesson, no matter what.

Dude is 41 years old. Pretty late in life to need this particular lesson, especially at the expense of an innocent family.

Best wishes to all for full recoveries and if convicted hope the DUI driver receives the harshest possible sentence.

Drink responsibility. U don’t have to drink and drive! It’s not like people aren’t capable of making the right choices.

Too many people aren’t capable of making the right choices.

I feel like we need to at least start treating alcohol like we do weed; quantity limits, dispensaries, heavy taxation.

Anybody else notice. During the biden inflation storm. Alcoholic drinks havent gone up much? I dont drink but the ads indicate. Alcohol and drugs are still affordable. When you cant afford gas or diesel. Just stay home and get plowed?

Not everyone follows your lead though and by reading knows that the US suffers one of the lowest inflation levels during this world wide inflation period and that a lot if it is because of Trump’s john, Vladimir, having invaded Ukraine driving the cost of oil and grain to record heights. You could walk to the library and read actual boba ride facts there and be set free. But a double binge watch of Bonanza is easier.

Inflation is zero, Joe Biden said so, what you talking about. If you dig a hole ,a trench for a internet line and you got a open trench , a hole and a water line , you got a trench already ,then you got that water line. You go and put the internet line and water line in same trench. Thank you Joe for the brainstorm, is this sheet for real ? See many of old people at this stage in life. He has got 6 months left at most until he doesn’t even recognize his own kids. Great choice America, he have a vegetable for a president, wayyyy better than Trump, crack me up.

I believe alcohol is pretty heavily taxed. When I was a young far right wing Republican ( sorry by the way) I used to go on ride alongs with the LA Sheriffs in the most violent ghettos and barrios in LA and I had the idea of tying the purchase of alcohol to an ID card, but eventually human nature convinced me it was a dumb idea. When I was in 9th grade Joe the Bum who was an older homeless guy, we called them hoboes back then, would live part of the year under the drooping branches of an old pepper tree and shovel out the stalls at Jack Webb’s movie horse stables at Devonshire Downs. He would buy us liquor for a 1/16 share. And back then after I had properly learned to hold my liquor I found I could call several delivery liquor stores and the college students did not care that I was 13 because I always bought $100 worth and tipped well. So I think any draconian alcohol restrictions would fail just like prohibition did.

Believe this is the same man who was a park ranger who was past out in his patrol car several years back. Trucker stopped to see if he had a medical emergency only to find him past out with an opened container in his lap.

Is this the one where the young girl’s leg was “partially amputated”? I hope that doctors can save her leg. Imagine the anguish of this child and her family. I certainly hope we do not witness a rerun of the Fortuna woman who dui killed her own child and served only a token sentence. The dui driver needs to plead guilty, serve his time and spend the rest of his life doing community service.

That woman who recieved only a ‘token’ sentence as you stated is quite aware she took her own child’s life! Are you flippin kidding me about her sentence?!?! I agree with the judge, that women is in hell for the rest of her days! Can we not show just the smallest bit of empathy for Gods sake!

It wasn’t just her own child she killed. She killed a second girl too. She can find sympathy in the dictionary right between shit and syphilis but she is unlikely to find much from the community.

I have always felt that those two girls were not run over accidently.

I always felt that whatever happened, was in retribution, or it was done to silence them…

You don’t go on vacation to Mexico, after something like that, unless you are ice-cold-blooded.

And never, ever operate a vehicle again. Should be required to walk, bike, or take the bus everywhere, no rides from friends, no Uber or taxi.

I knew the injured child’s mother a long time ago, just a very nice and sunny and friendly person. Their family does not deserve this.

The guy obviously has a drinking problem but it does not mean he has to drive while drinking. You would think losing his job as a Ranger would be a wake up call but some folks never learn.

He shouldn’t be driving at all. Make that part of his punishment. No more access to vehicles, no rides from friends. Walk, bike, or bus it everywhere.

After he spends a decade or two in jail, that is.

Fuck this guy. You all talking about lessons while this family didn’t want to be part of his damn lesson. He forced that on them. He forces this family to have to deal with a child with injuries and physical therapy/rehabilitation. He forces this father to retrace and rethink every “what if” scenario. He forced the dad to leave right after the accident and spend the next month at UCD medical. I say fuck this guys lesson. Fuck his future, fuck his driving privileges.

Would you consider the deliberate act of drinking then getting in the car and driving away and hitting a family of five an act of violence? Personally, I think we should use the Code of Hammurabi in many cases. This child is suffering from this guy’s act of violence.

Kym, I’m sure you are aware , but there may be a reported smoke in the area of Bigfoot Burl and Singing Trees…

But maybe it’s nothing…

In that area it could possibly just be a campfire…

Update, per scanner..

“One out on foot attempting to locate the fire”

“Negative fire”

Sorry about that…

I’m a little too jumpy…

If you do indeed know the family, then you know what a kind, generous person Rebecca is. You and I both know that violent retribution isn’t what she believes in.

That said, fuck Tyson Young. He’s a piece of shit who has committed DUI before. When the trial happens and he inevitably says he was sorry, I hope everyone remembers he’s not sorry he caused major injuries to a child, he’s sorry he got caught. Hoping he gets a loooong prison sentence.

I indeed know that about this family. Having been in their wedding, I know they would not advocate any sort of violence toward this guy. As for me, well, let’s just say I have a long way to go.
