Community Helps Corporation in Hopes of Creating Positive Change in Their Town

fix and fold

A group of community members have taken it upon themselves to help local employees to get back on track at the Eureka Target.Apparently, the town’s messy Target has been the talk of social media. Instead of joining in on the complaining, Michelle Bailey, her daughter and a group of their friends, put a call out on Facebook inviting community members to be the change they want to see.On the evening of August 11, the group of community members went to Target around 8 p.m. and began sorting, folding and straightening some of the clothing sections. Michelle is hoping their efforts can start a butterfly effect, a phenomenon where a small, localized change can create a large effect elsewhere.Through Facebook, Michelle challenged Target customers “to pick up/fold/hang 20 items every time you go into the store. If everyone did a little it would make such a huge difference.”

Some commenters online criticized the efforts to help a corporation instead of another store or organization, but corporation or not, Michelle recognizes the overwhelming task facing the local store employees, “Most of [the employees] are kids and probably have never worked at the store in good shape so they don’t even know where things belong. Please help!”

Michelle is encouraging the community to do what they can where they can, even if it’s simply straightening up clothes racks at their local Target.

“Let’s make a difference in our community. Eureka CAN be something we are proud of again if we all make a little effort,” Michelle wrote.

The group is planning on returning to Target next Thursday to volunteer again, however, anyone can make a difference by tidying up any time they visit the store.

It was a nice thing for the volunteers to do. A big store like Target should pay employees to maintain conditions. If the store is a mess there is a management issue.

I did two loads of MY laundry and folded it this morning. It was torture but I’m finished.
Can’t imagine doing that work for a for profit making store.
You folks must have more energy then me.

I consider this to be a prize-winningly silly item, when the “community is helping out a corporation” by tidying up the merchandise for no particular reason…

Maybe some of that energy could be focused on a more important cause, but I suppose nobody really wants to work at Target in Eureka, and I never go there except to get Halloween Candy or Detergent…

I always get panhandled in the parking lot though, and maybe the parking lot is where the cleaning should begin…

Target is a store I stay out of, and I find that there is less candy, cookies and snacks in my life, since the Pandemic, which I blame for losing the 15 pounds I gained in 2020…

I have to shop there, when in Kona, because they have everything, but I stay out of the clothing section lest I be lost among 25,000 bras and a large number of cheap shoes…

Yes- let’s all of us broke-ass poor people take some time to help out the corporate behemoths who have buried us. Sure let’s take our time to give them free help because that’s how we make things better! Ha Ha ha…yeah let’s give rich people all the money and eventually it will trickle down to us down here. Crack me up

My thoughts exactly. I get the human to human aspect but my goodness it’s a damn corporation. Let them manage their own mess and the consequences of paying slave wages. This energy would be better served outside on the streets of eureka.

Didn’t they have a massive security breach that released a tonne of people’s personal information?

The corporations are the entities that put independent businesses out of business, because they use Chinese labor to make the playing field unbeatable.

If you gor feel time, go down to the shelter and food bank and help those people.

It’s humiliating enough that our elected officials are at war with the American people.

It’s irresponsible and immoral to send hundreds of billions of dollars overseas when American mothers and fathers are being forced to choose between putting gas in the tank or food on the table.

America needs a Foreign Aid Moratorium, and we need it now.

What would you say if I told you Michelle Bailey owns a small clothing store in Eureka. Change your mind any?

You have got to be kidding me.
Right, I am going to go into Target and tidy up.
Umm let me get some supplies from the cleaning dept., those windows look a little dirty..
May as well grab a broom, and a mop
“Hey you!” “ You put that shirt in with the large, that’s a medium.”

Very noble! I guess I don’t see how Eureka will be a better place by doing Target’s employee’s job.
How about everybody gets together to pick up, fold and hang 20 tweekers when in Eureka?
After a couple years we might have a city to be proud of.

I don’t want to detract from the hearts and intention of these people. It was a kind gesture but two things can be true simultaneously. A company that made record profits during the pandemic should be offering overtime or hire more employees if the work necessary to run the store is not being accomplished. I would think that if you were going to volunteer maybe try the rescue mission or a beach clean up not a for profit store…. But then again maybe one of their children work there and they did the right thing by bringing attention to the poor management and employees being overworked and overwhelmed. Target needs to get their shit together this is not the fault of the employees at all

These guys need park clean up volunteers and community garden volunteers
There is even a community outreach job that pays!

Anybody else have worthy volunteer suggestions?

How about this…yes, Target is freaking huge, and could hire more staff if they can. But, and this is even more huge: how about the customers that take the clothes or whatever off the shelf to look at, PUT IT BACK NEATLY AND IN THE RIGHT SPOT!!! I KNOW THAT IS A LOT TO ASK OF SOME PEOPLE. Having worked retail, I am acutely aware of how some people just don’t fucking care any more. 🤬

honestly i am not sure how to look at this. If someone is willing to clean up Target, are they willing to clean up the street? I have not shopped at Target in 20 years, so it’s not the shape of Target that makes me cringe when I visit Eureka, It’s the drug addict losers and the dirty streets. boarded up businesses etc. People have accepted the state of things in Eureka for so long it has become normal. Zombies taking over the streets and neighborhoods is where I would start.
