The EPD takes home the Battle of the Badges trophy this year.

Although the Eureka Police Department walked away with the Battle of the Badges Blood Drive trophy this year, everybody wins.

Twenty-three agencies from Humboldt and Del Norte counties competed in the annual blood drive hosted by the Northern California Community Blood Bank for a total of 157 donors from the participating agencies.

The EPD narrowly took the win with 48 donors over the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office’s 47 donors.

Humboldt Bay Fire came in 3rd with 12 donors, Arcata PD and the Coast Guard both had 6 donors, Fortuna Fire had 5 donors, CHP and Rio Dell PD had 4 donors, Petrolia Fire, McKinleyville Fire and Arcata Fire all had 3 donors, City Ambulance/EMT, St. Joe’s Imaging, Hoopa and Fort Dick Fire had 2 donors each, with Fish & Game, Blue Lake Rancheria PD, Blue Lake Fire, Cal Ore Life Flight, Crescent City PD, National Parks, Fortuna PD and Ferndale Fire all participating with 1 donor each.

Thank you to all that participated.

If you would like to donate blood, please contact the Northern California Community Blood Bank.

Giving blood is a very honorable thing to do! I have given blood before. I have never received a transfusion. As being un -vaccinated I’ve got a question that maybe someone of you might have the answer? When you get vaccinated and then give blood does the mRNA or spike protein start to do in the recipident what it did/does in the person who got the jab in the first place? If you ever do need a transfusion can the receiver find out if the blood donor was vaccinated and if so, how many times?

I think different blood banks do things differently, but I’m pretty sure that our local blood bank does not require information about whether or not a donor has been vaccinated or boosted other than if it has been within a relatively short period of time which might temporarily defer eligibility.
Like ten days or so, but don’t quote me on that…

I’ve looked into this before…

There is no way to find out if a donated unit is from a vaccinated or unvaccinated donor, locally, I’m pretty sure.

What can be done is this, if you are anticipating a transfusion, like for a scheduled surgery, you can donate in advance, and be transfused with your own blood…

It may also be possible for someone you know and trust, of compatible blood type, and that you know their vaccine status, to donate and earmark that unit specifically for you, in the event of a scheduled surgery or transfusion.

Again, please don’t quote me, check with them to be sure, it’s been a little while since I’ve donated, but I’ve given almost 9 gallons…

And I don’t have any idea how donated vaccinated blood would react or behave in a recipient, or it’s effectiveness…
