[Update: Fire is Out] Backhoe on Fire Near Chipper in Scotia

Vehicle fire featureFire personnel from Scotia and Rio Dell have been paged to a report of a commercial vehicle fire in Scotia just after 11 a.m. on August 9th.

According to scanner traffic, a backhoe is on fire near the chipper at the Scotia Mill. At this time, there is no spread.

Please remember that this story is unfolding. Information is being reported as we gather it. However, some of the information coming from witnesses and initial official reports could be wrong. We will do our best to get the facts but, in the case that something is inaccurate, we will update with correct information as soon as we can.

Update 11:26 a.m.: Scanner traffic indicates the fire is out, the remaining units responding have been cancelled.

There’s at least one person claiming in the comment section that yesterday’s equipment fire on HRC land was started with a fusee. There were protesters at the gate up there yesterday.. the coincidences are piling up.
Buuuut, You’d think there would be alot of eyes on both pieces of equipment in both instances. Could a stranger saunter up to a loader at the mill in the middle of the day and start a fire un-observed?

Just glad the fire is out, and no one was injured. Thank you to the Scotia Volunteer Fire Department and the Rio Dell Fire Department. It is very nice to know that no matter what or where you people always roll quickly. Thank you!

Any leaks from all the lines that contain petroleum based hydraulic fluid can ignite if it gets onto hot engine parts or exhaust. Everyone is always so quick to jump to conclusions around here. 🙄
