[UPDATE 4:30 p.m.: Not Spreading] Tractor on Fire In the Mattole Area
Multiple resources, including two copters, are being rushed to the scene of a tractor on fire in the area of Rainbow Ridge and Mattole Road. About 4 p.m., a dispatcher told crews that there was a report of a commercial vehicle on fire.
The dispatcher passed along a report that we have not independently confirmed that protestors had set the tractor on fire.
Please remember that this story is unfolding. Information is being reported as we gather it. However, some of the information coming from witnesses and initial official reports could be wrong. We will do our best to get the facts but, in the case that something is inaccurate, we will update with correct information as soon as we can.
UPDATE 4:30 p.m.: The Incident Commander reported that the fire wasn’t spreading to the wildland. The tanker was released. However, at least one copter was requested to stay on scene.

Ahh more peacful protesters committing arson and possably burning down the forest, killing people, killing animals and costing tax payers millions all in the name of………
On an unconfirmed report…are you getting the mob together or waiting a bit?
I’m waiting for proof. Could be operator error blamed on those pesky kids. If it was forest defenders they will be punished by real forest defenders and then turned over to authorities. Who burns down the forest they want to save.
Forestry skidders or whatever it was aren’t that flammable really. From the outside. Sounds like there were protesters at the gate, but the thing on fire was a mile or so out? How would you set it on fire with all the HRC people around? It was far enough away from the trailer to just be getting warmed up if it was driving itself…
Any logging equipment that’s working out in the woods gets full of leaves, Needles and small branches, especially in the belly pan that’s soaked in oil.
Equipment burns like a torch !
I was there and saw the road flare they put I. The machine first had
Hmmm. Enigmatic. Hey! There’s a clue as to what happened! I just… have to…decipher the code…the symbols are familiar, yet, it’s not a language I recognize…
Quick, round up the usual suspects!
Yes those tractor haters..
John Deere’s are especially
hated. Though there is a few Kubota haters
They are in marlogo.
Another appropriate handle.
@ crap another trump supporter gone Delusional.. lol 😆
FBI rated Mar-a-Lago. Haha I’m loving it.
Thanks for the info. I was concerned because I heard the forestry plane fly over very fast, then the Sikorski skycrane flew over not 5 minutes later. (It just headed back north about 5 minutes ago.) I figured it was fire related. I’m glad they kept it from spreading!
Most planes do fly very fast..
A typical fire fighting plane will have about a 192 kts cruising speed.
Even helicopters fly very fast.
Back in the 60s I was a firefighter one summer after I got back from Nam. Out of Running Springs station in the San Bernardino Mts. Our crew was headed in on a ridgeline when a Borate Bomber striped us. One guy was knocked off his feet and fell to his death. IT’S DANGEROUS WORK be thankful there are brave folks.

Performance
Maximum speed: 250 kn (290 mph, 460 km/h) at sea level
Air attack 120 can do about 70mph, then pullout of anything. See it in action west side of kings range.
70 mph is slow to keep flying. If the OV-10 can fly at stall speed, then pull right out, it is impressive indeed!,[Bad Ass either way]
Protesters threw a fuse under the excavator, under the direction we heard Some Epic people said of [edit]..Non violent action group….right..[edit]
Please contact law enforcement with accusations of illegal behavior.
Calfire arson and the sheriffs have already been there and seen the videos of the fuse under the excavator
If anyone has photos or was a witness, I’d like to talk to them.
No videos of it getting tossed? If true the thrower just pooped on the parade. Way to endear yourself to the community you are “defending”.
I’ve watched drone videos of HRC land filmed by protestors intended to outrage me, and thought it looked pretty good actually for industrial timber land. HRCs turd-in-the-pocket is their using herbicides on the tanoak. They’d gain PR points if they could cut and yard out the tanoak for firewood. Even if it cost more they’d be able to burnish their enviro-cred. Maybe the protesters should start a fuels crew and buy a cheap, used, slightly burnt track grapple to get the wood out!
