Emergency medical ambulance featureScanner traffic beginning around 11:19 p.m. indicates a woman and a baby were struck by a vehicle at the entrance to the Ukiah Fairgrounds. Both the north and southbound lane of State Street has been shut down as first responders assess the situation.

The baby is reportedly a one-year-old female who was in a stroller when struck by the vehicle.

An air ambulance has been requested to the scene. Two ground ambulances have been requested to respond Code 3 (with lights and sirens).

The suspect vehicle is reportedly a four-door, dark-colored SUV that initially left the scene southbound on State Street and then returned to the scene. Law enforcement currently has the driver detained.

I just pray to God that the mother and baby are going to be ok. Leaving in an ambulance Code 3 and an air ambulance still coming just makes me hurt all over. I don’t know why the SUV driver hit them, but I will give him 1 point for coming back to the accident scene. My love and prays for mommy and baby.

Going to a convenience store? Soothing the infant with a walk? Returning home? Who knows?

I do know pedestrians have the right of way, regardless of their reason for crossing the street.

I don’t know what she was doing out. I do know that, the last time I looked, this was a free country. No curfews in place that I’m aware of.

Dogbiter, you just commenter Crap right where it hurts. Why does he care if she was out in the evening? I have not heard that the SUV driver was impaired.

It was the last night of the Redwood Empire Fair in Ukiah last night. I believe the carnival was open until 11:00 p.m.. a lot of people were there really excited and happy it was fairly crowded for the last night.
