Man Wanted in Connection With Death of One-Year-Old and Abandonment of Two-Year-Old Arrested, Says MCSO

This afternoon the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office announced that Edward “Two Feathers” Steele, their person of interest in the death of a one-year-old and the abandonment of a two-year-old, was arrested on the Hopland Rancheria.

Yesterday afternoon, an abandoned two-year-old child suffering from heatstroke was found on Ukiah’s Brush Street, and shortly after a one-year-old was found deceased nearby.

Law enforcement determined Steele was the last person known to have custody of the children and a search for him began ending this afternoon at the Hopland Rancheria.

Sorry you had to do more time, Dennis. It was for a just cause, and I for one have no quarrel with your actions. It’s what used to be routinely done to those who preyed on children. After conviction they’d be met on a dark evening by the fathers, uncles, brothers, etc. while LEO looked the other way. They got taken out of the population and never hurt another child. These days…

Quality childcare is pretty much non existent. Here’s a question though mom gets arrested for DV cops are at the hotel the kids are there. Not that I’m a big advocate for CPS or family children’s but why weren’t they called in the first place? Have seen it over and over again where there’s a DV incident at the home and the children are immediately removed. No consistency of care across systems!!!
The systems are beyond broken. Hope can be hard to find.

Dennis:
While I haven’t done time, I’ve known some younger people who have. They spoke about “prison justice” like you mentioned. Child abusers, rapists and those who victimize the elderly and handicapped sure can be in for a second round of punishment after their prison sentences start. I have heard some of it is because those prisoners dealing out the punishment were themselves victims of abuse when they were younger. Also they see abuse towards innocent children and the weak and vulnerable as the lowest of the low. Any further thoughts?

I hope the “mom” is checked out to see what pressing business led to her leaving her children with a creep like that!
Hang him

Pretty decent question about systems. Watching this guy slide downhill in the booking logs for years. On PCRS in and out every couple weeks. Obviously struggles with sobriety and possibly mental health issues. At what point do to continued addiction and under the influence behavior is a person deemed a danger to themselves and others? Right now it is when it is too late. The systems need to change. If people don’t want help or they say they’re fine they let them go. This guy obviously wasn’t fine. Now this little one is deceased. Why the hell don’t the systems get a little more proactive so this s*** stops happening??? Our local legal culture is guilty for continually enabling this tyoe of piss poor behavior without consequences.

What a thing to see for the officers. Thank you LEOs. I’m sure today was not an easy day for most involved. I bet they hugged a little longer their loved ones. God bless those kids. God bless first responders.
