Eureka Street Art Festival Gears Up For Fifth Annual Event

This is a press release from the Eureka Street Art Festival:

Are you ready? The Eureka Street Art Festival is gearing up for the fifth annual event from August 1st – 6th, with the culminating Block Party on Saturday, August 6th from 12-6.

The fifth annual Festival is focusing on the Bridge District – from the Samoa Bridge on the Waterfront to the 101 on the north end of town. For this year’s festival, you can expect to see the creation of 11 new murals on some of Eureka’s most central structures (including the underside of the Samoa Bridge!).

The artist application process drew in over 300 applicants from all over the country, and artists will be flocking to Eureka from the farthest corners of our country to paint these massive murals. And don’t worry – there are quite a few Humboldt County artists as well!

How do you enjoy the Festival? Attend one of the daily art walks at 5:30 (visit the website for meeting places), to hear about the concepts, talk to the artists, and learn more about these pieces of public art. And make sure to mark your calendar for the Block Party on Saturday, August 6th from 12-6 taking place under the Samoa Bridge on Waterfront Drive. There will be 100+ vendors, food trucks, a huge beer garden, live art, massive murals, family-friendly activities, a community mural, live music, and more!

Want to get involved? Are you a local business or organization? The Festival encourages you to organize a coordinated event (like an art show, bike ride, clean-up, or workshop) or offer related specials and sales (the Pollock pizza, anyone?) And of course the Festival is also seeking Volunteers and Sponsors. You can find more information about all of these things on the Festival’s website: www.eurekastreetartfestival.com, under Get Involved. Also, make sure to follow them on Instagram (@EurekaStreetArtFestival) and Facebook for more updates!

The Samoa Bridge Mural Project community beautification project was made possible through Governor Gavin Newsom’s Clean California initiative, a sweeping $1.1 billion multi-year effort led by Caltrans to remove trash, create jobs, and engage communities to transform state and local public spaces. Visit CleanCA.com for more information about this transformative program.

The Eureka Street Art Festival’s mission is to create intentional, accessible art that enlivens public spaces, stimulates community revitalization, and attracts visitors to Eureka. Our long term aim is to recreate this event annually and continuously introduce new public art in Eureka. Excess funds raised by the Festival will go towards the maintenance of existing public art throughout the city. ESAF Is a Dreammaker Project of the Ink People Center for the Arts .
