‘Calling all Random People’: Random People Theatre

This is a press release from Random People Theatre:

A call for writers to gear up. Now is the time to write for Spring 2023.

The next Random People Theatre Project cycle is in the works.

It all begins with writing.

If you, or someone you know, can encourage or discover has a concept for the stage now is the time to make notes, start thinking of structure, and draft an outline. You might even consider collaboration to help someone write their story. Everyone so inclined will take these first rudimentary steps, we of course want good stories told well, so work is required.

Experience has shown that in order to mount a show of reasonable length, we’ll need around six fifteen minute pieces.  More writers can be included if shorter pieces are written.

Past writing workshops have helped some new writers come on board but we can’t be expected to “teach” anyone how to write in a few workshops. Not everyone will be inclined to attend workshops, or think they need one, but if you are writing for the show it is strongly encouraged that you attend at least one or two.

A dynamic workshop should be a place to share your concept, bring your work in progress, and get some feedback and encouragement, with ideas and suggestions how to make your story work best on stage.

Our tentative schedule has workshops in Garberville beginning mid August alternating Sundays for a couple of hours in the afternoon.

Please let us know if you are interested in attending.

Just don’t write anything too interesting, provocative, or real–that group is about as milk toast as it gets.

You haven’t been paying attention. Maybe if you’re so critical, you should write and submit your own creative work.

I made that comment because they have rejected everything I’ve written and submitted. I am wild, they are tame, so be it.
Bring on another boring show!

Disgruntled then. Some very good folks are willing to help you improve your work.

Good one Onlooker,
I actually originally signed that comment Disgruntled Reject but didn’t want to over-use “Reject.”
Here’s a random sample of my work, work, ha! More like play!
I’ve got about 300 of these:

Harvest Time

She: So what have you been up to?

He: Oh did some errands uptown, cruised around for internationalistas…

She: Huh?

He: you know, checking out the cute girls from all over the world that are landing in town this time of year.

She: oh harvest time, but you don’t even have a crop, you stopped growing…

He: well, I’m lonely, is that a crime?

She: Probably. This is pathetic, you’re going to get into trouble, I don’t think I want to borrow your white truck anymore.

He: hey, I drove around like this last year too when I did have a crop and I actually did need help.

She: right, but you were too paranoid to hire anyone off the street, as usual. Dude, you’re a predator!

He: I’m not, I’m just lonely, I want company. They can come down, make a meal, take a shower and crash in the guest house.

She: well, they want work, they want money. What are you going to do, lie and tell them you’re looking for workers?

He: not at all, I’ll be honest, I just want some friends! Actually I am looking for some help reorganizing the rooms I used to use, make them nice again.

She: c’mon, and you’re only trying to find young women, how young?

He: hmm, don’t have to be so young, say, 40 or less? Yesterday I met three Austrians, two women and one man, maybe it would be easier to invite a group like that down. One of the girls was pretty attractive, she was writing in her journal.

She: get real, you want sex.

He: no way, hey I’ve got ED half the time anyway.

She: yeah but you just had your hot summer romance, you said you were giving her lots of orgasms.

He: yeah, I guess I am some kind of a sex god now, didn’t know I had it in me.

She: I knew it, just another creepy geezer cruising for girls. Have you heard anything from Angel?

He: no, it’s been two weeks. I just finished typing up the story about our month-long fling and sadly during the last chapters the arguments were outnumbering the orgasms.

She: do you think you’ll ever see her again? She was pretty interesting and amazing. What a knockout.

He: She’s probably done with me. I was a good lover I think, I kissed her, cuddled her, gave her multiple orgasms, and comforted her during her freak outs. Plus I’m tall like her!

She: she probably met some billionaire at the eclipse who can handle her, treat her right. You had the hot chick and you couldn’t handle it.

He: yeah, I think I’m pretty special but I may actually be easily replaceable.

She: hahaha, probably.

Thanks for reading that. Have you ever had a party and thought it might be fun to do a theatre segment with your guests? If so I will supply you with five dialogs you can print off and you and your friends can entertain each other. The first five are free and this applies to anyone who reads this. The next five are probably free also. Anyway here’s a sample of a very small one, just for fun:

Wild is not always good. Maybe your stuff was wild like crazy wild and only you could understand it? My best jokes are like that…only 3 people get it but they bust a gut laughing…everybody else just shakes their head
