Law Enforcement Respond to the Man With a Firearm Walking Along Hwy 299

About 7 p.m., several calls went to 911 reporting a man with a firearm walking down Hwy 299 near North Bank Road. At least one report said that it was a rifle.

According to Todd with Lost Coast Outpost’s scanner coverage, “HCSO is out with CHP and staging while waiting for another unit. They have a bean bag gun deployed. Fire and Medical are staging as well.”

LoCO reports that after law enforcement made contact with the subject, they reported they were CODE 4 (safe) and the Fire Department and ambulance were requested to come to where the man was located.

Please remember that information gathered from initial reports is subject to revision as more facts become available.

It’s insane where people’s minds go when they think of threats to their safety.

tell me about it. When I see people in open carry states carrying rifles into stores and restaurants, or packing on their hip, I’m thinking they’ve got to feel awfully threatened, or are trying to feel threatening.

Yellowpine Idaho has a restaurant that has a elk mount with a sign that says hang your guns here. There were guns hanging and people grabbing them on their way out. Awesome little town. Also a way to kill the steak incase it’s too rare and still alive lol.

You are missing the whole point, anyway concealed carry is more effective because criminals don’t know who may be armed. And remember criminals are mostly better armed , they don’t obey any gun control laws at all.

Firearms were NOT allowed within the town limits.
They had to be relinquished to a Deputy or Marshal upon entry.

…seen a few nutcases walking, stumbling, laying along the 299 between Arcata n Blue Lake this past week (maybe law enforcement is busy – at their desk on the computer/calculator, inflating “pot bust” numbers)..not sure if this has anything to do with them/that . Just an FYI.

But that’s kind of the problem isn’t it? A good guy running around with a gun looks exactly like a deranged nut with a gun who is preparing for a mass shooting.

Funny thing is all this police and crap over something that is not a crime , wasted resources a person man or woman with a rifle is not a crime even while walking down a road , simply walking with a rifle is not a crime how are people supposed to hunt ? What if their car broke down and they were going for help and did not want their rifle stolen ? The fact that the media and law enforcement has made “man with a gun” such a big deal when in fact it is one of the things that throughout this nations history the one thing most people want when they are in trouble. Everytime you see a police officer you should call 911 and report a person with a firearm. This about this the courts have decided that the law enforcement has zero responsibility to protect you, zero yet they walk around with guns armor tactical gear, now if it is not to protect you what is it for ? One could easily say it is there to ensure compliance or for them to be able to enforce their will. Think that is a stretch ? Tell that to the grandmother 80 plus old that was shot for refusing to get out of her car. Now ask yourself this if a group of people are allowed to walk around with firearms to enforce their will upon a larger group of people what does that make them ? And what does that make the larger group of people ? Doesnt sound like a very free larger group does it. And they say slavery isnt here anymore they say we are free bullshit.

So by that logic anyone walking down the street with a 6 pack should be stopped and questioned as well because not everyone with a 6 pack is over 21 and many shouldnt have beer either right ? Because lets face it a 6 pack could lead to drunk driving and deaths

Like what’s described as youth shooter at Illinois 4th parade this morning, another mental health crisis created by the Fauci/school union school closures like Uvalde and Buffalo?

What season would they be hunting in the first week of July?
This bit from the article, though:
Fire Department and ambulance were requested to come to where the man was located
Something wasn’t okay with the guy.

Was he? Again, why were the fire dept. and an ambulance called? Perhaps the cops did something to him, or he was in a bad way already.
We’ll have to wait to hear the rest of the story.
You 2nd fetishists are going to have to get used to the fact that people are justifiably nervous around people walking down the highway, street, etc with a long gun (or a handgun for that matter).
I say that as a gun owner (several various hunting rifles and shotguns). Even in the bitty town in the most redneck part of Oregon (the sheriff of the county was buddies with the Bundy gang at Malheur) you won’t see people packing their rifles like that. Now if you ran into someone in the woods during hunting season that would be different. And it is.
When we “go to town” to get supplies, the rifles are locked in the truck, unseen. Of course you can tell who has been out hunting/camping for several days because we smell like campfire and needing a shower badly. The townsfolk don’t mind at all, bless their hearts.

Okay, that’s true (Angela looks out on her deck and sees a couple on the trees outside). Kind of amazing story behind the Eurasian collared dove. A robbery in a pet store in the Bahamas in 1974 allowed some obviously mating pairs to escape. They moved across the continent amazingly rapidly showing up in BC, Canada in just 31 years.
Any others?
Also, did you miss the part about the fire dept. and ambulance being called in by the cops?

Jack rabbits?, Coyotes?, Wild Pigs?, Opossums? Rattlesnakes?

No, I saw that part, too…

I figured he got shot by the beanbag gun, or maybe shot with deadly projectiles…

That the reporting just ended abruptly, leads me to believe that the man’s life may have ended abruptly, also…

When i was a kid in the 70’s i remember almost all the rednecks having rifles on the gun rack in their trucks at the high school. There were no shootings. Its not the guns. I firmly believe its our educational (or lack of) system. The U.S. was founded on blood and violence and history books have lied about it. Most everything is a lie or useless bullshit. Reform the ed system. Sorry just my rambling thoughts

How ingrown an outlook is it to say that. What makes such ideas possible is only hanging on to the current excess of material things allowing thevselfbindulgence of constant whining . Our education system sucks but it’s not because “U.S. was founded on blood and violence and history books have lied about it.” It’s because the US education institutions insists on simplicity without nuance. Everything is black and white and everything is political and interested only it itself.

Every group, race, tribe has an ugly past and every group was was as vicious as they were capable of being when conflicts happened. Or as decent. Long before Europeans arrived in North America, indigenous people people conducted massacres and either eliminated, enslaved, forced removal or incorporated other groups as far as they were able. Rape, human sacrifice, religious intolerance, mass animal extinctions, epidemics, etc all are in archeological records. But without written records, and the desire to read them, it is way too easy to flatter oneself than face up that. Everywhere, from Asia to South America only the lack of ability to travel or have the material for conquest limited imposing misery on others.

Education is limited by the intellectual capacity of students and, more importantly, teachers along with time and the needs of survival and politics. Frankly the intellects of those involved in education are as likely to damage society as save it. Too much education eliminates doing anyway. But you don’t need to waste even more time and brain cells assuming what troubles you is unique. For good or bad, that is one thing that is pretty true. Enmasse, you and yours are much the same as everyone else. If you don’t screw it up, someone will screw it up for you. Adapt.

The end of open carry in CA Had nothing to do with jerry browns 2nd term. It had Everything to do with Black Panthers legally open carrying rifles to sacramento state capital building in 1969..mighta been 70. They we’re protesting being Murdered by Racist Cops for being politically aware and politically active Black People in their neighborhoods.
It was Ronald Reagan who immediatly passed the very first of what we call modern ” gun control” laws in CA!!!
What Jerry brown did was advance the very same Additional gun laws Reagan proposed and weren’t passed while he was repub governor.

That was the Mulford Act. Yes, under Reagan, but applied to government buildings, etc. Open carry in California, outside specific municipalites, was legal in California until 6 or 7 years ago. It is still is legal in some areas.

For what it’s worth, it sounded like there was information to suggest that the man was experiencing a medical or psychiatric emergency, hence fire and medical being requested. He was described as “staggering” down the highway. I don’t know whether he actually had a rifle as the initial 911 calls indicated.
It didn’t sound like a man “open carrying” a rifle or hunting. I’m really not sure what one could be hunting on the side of 299 in Blue Lake in early July.

He may have been previously shot.

And I’m pretty sure when the 2nd amendment was formed, their were no cars, so walking with a rifle would have been pretty common.

Doo you have to be in a car or truck to legally carry a gun?

Relax, folks. The Supreme Court has just decided that anybody carrying a concealed weapon is part of the “well regulated militia”.
