‘Enjoy Open Skies on July 4 at Six Rivers National Forest’: USFS

This is a press release from the U.S. Forest Service:

Celebrating July 4 festivities outdoors is a time-honored tradition throughout the United States, and Six Rivers National Forest is happy to welcome so many outdoor enthusiasts this upcoming weekend. As you gather and explore please remember that fireworks and pyrotechnics are prohibited on public lands – every forest, every campsite, every day.

More than 90 percent of all wildland fires are human caused. This, coupled with drier than normal conditions, increases the odds of forest fires igniting. Together, Californians can prepare and prevent wildfires with just a bit of planning.

“July 4 celebrations bring lots of activity to California’s 18 national forests, and we want to remind visitors to leave the fireworks displays to your city and local organizations,” said Jim Bacon, director of Public Services for the Pacific Southwest Region. “Let the beauty of the night skies be your show, so everyone can enjoy a safe holiday weekend.”

To ensure a fun weekend, consult the Interactive Visitor Map or visit each national forest website directly to check for important alerts on sites and trails. Have backup destinations in mind in case an area is closed or overcrowded.

As always, the USDA Forest Service and the Six Rivers National Forest reminds everyone visiting any national forest to recreate responsibly to prevent wildfires – including noting any fire restrictions in place before starting a campfire, carrying tools to extinguish a flame, and reporting a fire by calling 911. Use our Know Before You Go site for more answers to all your big questions.

The Pacific Southwest Regional Order for fire restrictions across California national forests is also available in Spanish.

Attached is a ready to use fireworks Public Service Announcement video and a few images to help media spread this important fireworks safety information.

He makes a habit of misguided practices. Also believes it’s a wise decision to ride bikes on narrow 2 lane backroads……

the fifth floor balcony of the BSS at HSU is the 2nd best spot, the roof being the best, if you can find a custodian with the key.

on a related topic, Ukraine has hit Moscow with ordinance purportedly supplied by the U.S.

I wonder if folks realize the geopolitical thin ice we are on?

The government blames forest fires on climate change on its bully pulpit, while it’s own arm, the forest service, admits 90 percent of all forest fires are man caused.

Running out of water, thats not what Sacramento water districts are saying. Ask any water district in the valley, they will tell you that they flow the same gallons today as they did 20 years ago. The problem is where it is going to.

Only because fifty million people and agriculture are sucking it dry. Periodic droughts are a feature of the west. Just look at the tree rings and records.

Apples and oranges. Climate change has to do with severity nothing to do with cause.

So if there were 90 percent less fires , the result would be more severe?

No the number of fires is irrelevant. The fact is that recent wildfires are consuming an inordinate amount of the landscape.I don’t know anything about the climate but from what I see if its hotter and drier stuff happens that aint normal.
