‘The Grind Cafe’ Grand Opening at ACV on June 30th

Press release from Humboldt County Administrative Office:

brown monochromatic flyer for grind with plane above silhouetted family with luggageThe Humboldt County Department of Aviation is excited to announce that The Grind Café is landing at the California Redwood Coast Humboldt County Airport (ACV) on Thursday, June 30.

In April 2020, Ramone’s vacated the restaurant space at ACV as a result of the drastic downturn in airline passenger activity due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. In August of 2021, the Board of Supervisors approved Project SOAR, a partnership between the County of Humboldt’s Division of Economic Development and the Humboldt County Department of Aviation, to enhance and improve economic autonomy and sustainability for ACV. Through Project SOAR, the team worked to issue a request for proposals to fill the vacant restaurant space.

“We are thrilled to welcome The Grind Café to ACV,” said Cody Roggatz, Director of Aviation for the County of Humboldt.” He added, “We have worked to reestablish a restaurant offering for travelers and visitors to enjoy while flying local, and I would like to thank the Board of Supervisors, county staff and everyone involved in making it happen.”

The Grind Café will provide visitors and residents a warm Humboldt welcome and farewell through a variety of dining options featuring authentic family recipes and local and organically sourced ingredients. Freshly made menu items will include coffee and pastry, grab-and-go sandwiches, salads, soups and limited dine-in meals, alcoholic beverages, and child friendly, vegan and gluten free offerings.

“I look forward to creating a convenient, delicious, and memorable experience for travelers passing through, employees working from and residents visiting ACV,” said Gabrielle Long, owner and founder of the local favorite, family-owned restaurant A Taste of Bim and owner of The Grind Café.

Starting on Thursday, June 30, The Grind Café will be open at the California Redwood Coast Humboldt County Airport, located at 3561 Boeing Ave in McKinleyville, seven days a week from 5 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

To celebrate the grand opening of The Grind Café at ACV, the McKinleyville Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a ribbon cutting ceremony at ACV on Thursday, June 30 at 10 a.m. All community members are welcome to attend. For more information regarding the ribbon cutting ceremony, please email [email protected] or call 707-839-5401.

I smell $20.00 hash browns an eggs.
Bacon extra.
As long as it’s good, it’s worth it.

Yes it is connected she was essentially paid with this contract to release grand jury report early. I’m boycotting as of this point

I wonder if any of the other grand jury members are associated with any pending cannabis permits, or any other kinds of permits or perks?

Those might go pretty smoothly too, I would imagine…

By all appearances, not the best look…

“Gabrielle Long, owner of Taste of Bim and the Grind Cafe in Eureka and 2021-22 civil grand jury member has been chosen to take over the cafe at Humboldt County Airport.

Long told me she was only on the civil grand jury for a few months not the whole term due to being busy with her businesses.

The Grind Cafe provides baked goods and catering to Cal Poly. I had heard something about big news related to the Grind but Long told me that she wanted to wait until there was an official announcement from the powers to be.

This is an agenda item on the June 7 Board of Supervisors meeting.

I have no idea why it’s “not the best look”

She is a successful operator of multiple food service locations and had the best proposal.
Why would I care if she was on the Grand Jury?

maybe because the Grand Jury has been dabbling in conflict of interest lately with issues related to the County. this is the 3rd such issue in 45 days.

You know, it could also be because of the current location of The Grind Cafe is close to the seat of county government, and perchance more of a known entity to the people entrusted to review the RFPs.

That could explain her desire to serve on the Grand Jury too. It’s just right across the street, and we are constantly in need of qualified people to serve. Besides, let’s not pretend that delaying the KPD report until after the election would have changed the outcome. Maybe it’s only a 20 point margin instead of 2-1, but the outcome is still the same. The county filed their lawsuit around the same time anyway, which they are now leveraging to force her out early. Even if you are willing to believe that she has been entirely set up by a vast county conspiracy, the early release of the grand jury report wasn’t necessary for those aims.

The far more likely story here is that a hardworking, dedicated local business person, who has gone out of her way to be a civil servant, is about to open a very successful business at the local airport. Meanwhile, the county is forcing out someone who, while she might be on to something regarding potential fiscal malfeasance, failed to make the trains run on time for the county’s coffers and got creamed at the polls for it.

Correlation does not prove causality, my friends. Correlation does not prove causality.

I wonder if County Aviation has been “penciling out”?

You know, they disqualified her competition for the lack of one signature…

You never know, they might have had a lot of skin in the game…

They might be much relieved that Paz isn’t calling attention to them anymore…

It’ll be back to business as usual…

I suppose you figure Ford deserved his raise, too.

Just nother hardworking local business person???
