I believe this is the third pedestrian death in the so-called safety corridor since January. Always early morning hours.

Walking IN the roadway after dark might not be considered a safety corridor shortcoming.

Where in the press release does it say where the pedestrian was walking, or where the driver was operating the vehicle, at the time of the crash?

That’s because they named it a “safety corridor” instead of a “collision-free zone”

Every night this happens; someone tries to dodge traffic at night. I see it as I Door Dash and GrubHub. Mostly at night. There’s always that one person that takes off in front of you when a crosswalk (or just wait 10 seconds) is 100 feet away. If these folks are not under the influence of something, I genuinely feel these are suicide attempts. other Dashers and Grubbers I’ve met have some near death experiences, right here in town.

To the driver- Thank you for sticking around and not driving away. I doubt it was your fault. Please don’t take it personally or too hard…sometimes sucky things just happen. I hope the pedestrian may RIP and find a better place..

I am very sorry another person has been killed by a vehicle. Condolences to their family and friends. RIP. People, please watch for folks that are walking near or on the highway. You just never know what they are doing or why.

So while I cannot disclose names, I can confirm that I knew the deceased, they were a kind soul who had fallen on hard times more than once but they were in recovery and were working hard at the time. I do not know the exact details but I do know that I among others tend to wander around at night because we are night owls, not because we are on any sort of drugs, Humboldt county is just a pretty place and it’s nice at night when it’s quiet and you can hear the ocean.
