Dear [community],

We wanted to check in on some distressing news and what we can do to work together to stop it.

A recent ruling by federal regulators will give big coal corporations the opportunity to submit a formal proposal to start up a massive Toxic Coal Train in our backyards. This is insane.

Join Senator Mike McGuire and an all-star panel for a Town Hall to discuss the alarming new developments that could advance a dangerous Coal Train project here in Northern California.

Join the conversation and hear more about how we can work together to stop the Toxic Coal Train and to hear about the soon-to-be launched Master Plan process for the Great Redwood Trail.

Here are the Town Hall details:

What: Senator McGuire’s Town Hall to Stop the Toxic Coal Train

Date & Time: Join Senator McGuire via livestream video or on the phone, Wednesday, June 1 at 6:30pm.

RSVP and ask a question for the Town Hall presenters by clicking here!

How to attend: Tune in on June 1 at 6:30pm at https://sd02.senate.ca.gov/video. You can also dial in to listen by phone at 1-669-900-6833 and enter the Webinar ID: 872 8641 6921.

this great redwood trail is the dumbest fuckin idea i have ever heard of. the only reason why the eel river canyon is so prestine is because of its remote location and LACK OF PEOPLE TO FUCK IT UP . im sure every property owner that borders the tracks will agree. maguire and newsome can fuck off as far as im concerned

If that’s the dumbest thing one has ever heard of, they haven’t been around much.
I’d be more in favor of the trail if I didn’t have concerns about it becoming “Ambush Alley”, and having all kinds of shit going on and driving LE and the locals nuts. We’ll see.
I think the politicians are looking for a deal. Get the inland route done and everybody wins. The Eel Canyon always has been and always will be a dangerous, expensive place for a set of rails.

Apparently, originally, in the early 20th century, the plans were to build the line along the South Fork of the Eel River.

Those plans and surveys burned up in the 1906 San Fransisco earthquake and subsequent fire.

I would prefer the rail be replaced and repaired, rather than be converted to a trail.

The Idea of a trail just seems so illogical for that stretch.

If a rail can’t be maintained, a trail surely can’t be maintained. This is an enormous fiasco in the making.

An elitist pipedream.

It’s really delusional.

With the current price of fuel, we need this train to ship goods more than ever.

There are a lot higher priorities than making the Great Redwood Trail the “northern leg” of “The Bullet Train”.

Hurry up and slow down.

We have a terrible homeless problem, and the economy is shot, and it’s about to get worse. This whole idea is a giant waste of taxpayer resources.

It’s a first responders nightmare.

They still believe in climate change, hey look its another foggy day in Humboldt and summer is less than 3 weeks away, man how the weather has changed so dramatically since i was here as a kid, NOT. And rain in the forcast this week! Climate change, covid, Ukraine war all money makers that really have zero effect on 99 percent of the population but panicked people do irrational things, wheres the tp?
