A seventy-year-old camper and former teacher has gone missing. According to the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office, he was last “known to be camping at the McBride Springs Campground off of Everitt Memorial Highway in the Mt. Shasta area” on Monday, May 23, 2022. However, his son, Jon Forrest reports that he is believed to have been headed west to the Coast.

“If you are hiking or camping in North California, vicinity Highway 96, please keep a look out!!!” he requested.

Anderson was driving a grey Toyota Rav4 with license plate #882BAY.

Anyone with information should contact the SCSO Dispatch at (530)841-2900.

UPDATE 1:53 p.m.: Son, Jon Forrest, announced on his Facebook page,

First and foremost, we have had positive contact with Paul as of noon (CST)! He is alive, well, and in good spirits!

The Anderson family is eternally grateful for the outpouring of support, shares, likes, prayers, thoughts, and proliferation of the “find Paul” message across media platforms. After the media push earlier this week, we began receiving messages from people who had seen Paul in rural northern California. Due to YOUR efforts, he was contacted by local people who put him in contact with us.

We have now turned off the “missing person report” through the California Law agencies. Further, we are contacting as many people as possible to give our heartfelt thanks. Due to the nature of social media, we won’t be able to track every share; however, please extend our deepest gratitude to your various networks.

We hope you, your families, and your friends have a lovely Memorial Day Weekend.

Thanks again for YOUR assistance in helping this family reunite with their dad.

I pray he will be found and will be fine. Please keep an eye out for his Toyota Rav4 in gray. If you think you have seen him, please call the Siskiyou Sheriff or 911.

I’m surprised he doesn’t have a cell phone with him.

He could very well have had a cellphone with him but if he was traveling SR 96 or most any of the forest roads off of it he wouldn’t have reception. Most of that area is quite remote & rugged along the Klamath River.
So glad to hear he was found safe.

Whew, glad found and safe! What I meant was if he had been headed to the coast he would have made contact to say he was doing so.

I am hopeful Mr. Anderson isn’t lost, just enjoying the off-grid natural splendor on that route.
