[T]he Honorable Leona Colegrove, Hoopa Valley Tribal Court Chief Judge, called for the support of Ben McLaughlin in the June 7 election.  Judge Colegrove wrote to “encourage the vote for Ben McLaughlin for Humboldt County Superior Court Judge,” citing he “has been a long time supporter of Tribal/County collaboration and our Tribal wellness courts.”

Ben McLaughlin stated that “I am honored by Judge Colegrove’s endorsement.  In my 23 years of courtroom experience, I’ve prosecuted and defended tribal members and always tried to treat Tribal members fairly, cognizant of their unique circumstances.  In addition, the Tribes recognize my commitment as we work in a collaborative process to establish a Memorandum of Understanding with Humboldt County’s judicial.  The Courts must ensure accountability in a way that leads to rehabilitation which breaks the cycle of criminal behavior.  In this way, our communities are safer, and Justice is served.”

Judge Colegrove’s endorsement joins legal professionals like Del Norte County District Attorney Katherine Micks, former Humboldt District Attorney Paul Gallegos and a host of current and former Deputy District Attorneys and Public Defenders who have worked for years with McLaughlin.
