This is a press release from the Ink People Center for the Arts:

“Botanical Gardens Path” by Lynn Niekrasz

Jan Hollander, Lynn Niekrasz and Leslie Allen are three local artists participating in the 2022 North Coast Open Studios the first two weekends in June. June 4,5 and 11,12 from 10-5 each day they will open their studios for viewing and purchasing of their Art. Offering 100’s of works from textile prints, wearable art made from original designs, watercolours, prints, original cards and oil paintings created “en Plein air” and studio creations.

Jan Hollander has enjoyed interpreting the landscape through watercolour and oils on location and in her studio.  “I find the landscape both exciting and invigorating to my senses. The quality of light here is wonderful, sometimes elusive but well worth the effort to pack up my gear and head out to the perfect spot to try to capture it. The light on the coast is often diffused and the landscape can have an almost monochromatic value in color, which forces me to find the subtle color notes in a scene. Inland light can be crisp and a bit glaring, making me glad I brought my umbrella to diffuse it. These are challenging but also wonderful opportunities to create a work of art that takes the viewer on a journey that is both tranquil and hopefully beautiful”, said Jan. Jan Hollander’s studio is located at 3560 Nevada St., Eureka.

Lynn Niekrasz has been oil painting since the early 2000’s. “I’ve always created Art from a young age but the opportunity to learn oil painting was irresistible to me.” I began instruction with a Master Artist in Eureka and after retirement dedicated myself to Plein air painting and studio creations.

Workshops from local artists such as Jim McVicker, Stock Schluter,Ryan Jensen and others has helped me progress and continually learn more about my chosen medium. I find oil painting challenging but rewarding, you can never know enough about the ways to capture the beauty of this area. I feel fortunate to have so many options for painting in Humboldt county. We’ve got the redwoods, rivers, scenic views abound  and my goal is to paint them!”, said Lynn.

Lynn Niekrasz Paints Studio can be found at 3641 California St. , Eureka.

Leslie Allen has been creating Art since the early 80″s. Her original watercolours will be available in addition to wearable textile art.”I’ve started printing my designs on fabric at “Spoonflower” and making wearable art. Visitors can see the original artwork behind the textile designs.Leslie will have cotton gauze scarves, tablecloths and baseball caps . Her paintings will be for sale , priced to move. Leslie Allen can be found at 3203 D St., Eureka.

These artists are in close proximity to each other and can easily be visited  in a morning or afternoon.

North Coast Open Studios provides these local artists an opportunity to share their creations and is a DreamMaker project of the Ink People Center for the Arts.
