Press release from Beverly Chang:

Humboldt County will be represented at the 146th Annual Westminister Kennel Club Dog Show at the Lyndhurst Mansion in Tarrytown. New York.

Always Dreaming on Monument Mtn, “Mattie” will be one of 18 champion dogs and 8 champion bitches representing Miniature American Shepherds.  Mattie was bred and is owned by Rio Dell resident Beverly Chang.

The conformation ring date assigned to Mattie is June 20th.  Miniature American Shepherds are one of the 30 American Kennel Club’s recognized herding breeds competing throughout that day.  The Westminster show series will end June 22nd with the Best in Show competition.  Televised portions of the series can be viewed on AKCTV.com.

Mattie will be presented on the hand of Carrie Rosenkoetter of Missouri, a long time friend of Mattie and Chang.

Chang loves the breed and enjoys on leash Rally, Disc Dog, Agility, Barn Hunt, Scent Work, and Herding stock with her gentle sprite Mattie.

Believing in high quality well bred dogs, Chang has produced two litters of puppies in eight years.  Mattie is one of eight littermates born in April 2019.  All 13 pups bred by Chang live in loving homes in 7 states.

AKC isn’t normally my thing, but hey, it’s a happy Dog story in a world of non-happy and non-Dog stories. Maybe it’s part of the breed requirements to show her, but, I am so glad to see she has been learning about her herding heritage. Our Blue Heeler can sniff out the smallest biscuit in the largest, darkest, most cluttered barn on the Northcoast. She can herd my wife and I throughout the entire house. I can tell to “go find Mommy” and she will lead me to her. Fortunately, there are no kids named Timmy and no wells near by. She can be at trail’s end scouting out danger and at our side checking our safety simultaneously. She can corral every single squeekey ball she owns, all the sticks we’ve thrown in the last three months, plus a few that just fell from the trees, for us to chose which to throw, only to stare at us saying, “not that one.”

Dogspeed Mattie.

You realize that you have now gotten most people under 50 to Google “What’s Timmy in the well mean?” 🙂
