California Gets First Likely Case of Monkeypox

cdph_logoPress release from the California Department of Public Health (CDPH):

The California Department of Public Health (CDPH), working with Sacramento County Public Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), is investigating its first suspected case of monkeypox infection in Sacramento County in a person who recently traveled abroad.

On May 21, 2022, CDPH and Sacramento County began investigating the resident for possible monkeypox infection. They have tested preliminarily positive for an orthopox virus, and confirmation for monkeypox is pending CDC testing. The patient is isolating, and CDPH is working with county health officials and the CDC to ensure appropriate care and response, including contact tracing and post-exposure prevention for close contacts. The risk of monkeypox in the general population is very low.

CDC and CDPH are urging healthcare providers in the U.S. to be alert for patients who have rash illnesses consistent with monkeypox, especially if they have traveled to an area where monkeypox has been reported, or have had close contact with a person suspected of having monkeypox. The CDC has warned of a potential increased risk of exposure for those who self-identify as men who have sex with men.

You may attribute the following statement to California State Epidemiologist Dr. Erica Pan:

“California is reporting its first suspected case of monkeypox infection in Sacramento County in a person who recently traveled abroad. The patient is isolating, and the California Department of Public Health is working quickly with local and federal health officials to ensure appropriate care and response, including contact tracing and post-exposure prevention for close contacts. The risk of monkeypox in the general population is very low.

Because the disease is rare, health care providers may not be familiar with the presentation of monkeypox and the possibility of monkeypox transmission during intimate or sexual contact may not be well known. As such, CDPH is promoting awareness amongst healthcare providers and the public, including appropriate infection control for monkeypox cases in the healthcare setting.”

The CDPH laboratory in Richmond is prepared to receive specimens from persons with suspected monkeypox to preliminarily test for the diagnosis. Additionally, the CDPH health care associated infection program is available to provide consultation on infection control to health care facilities.

CDPH will share more information with the public on our monkeypox resource page as it becomes available.

Well that was quick. Another bad ass virus on the loose.
At least Biden has enough sense to not be saying “it will be gone soon, it will disappear”
And no folks, ingesting bleach will not cure it, nor will Ivermectin.
Thank god and Greyhound Trump is gone.

At least Fauci had the foresight to stockpile 1000 doses of the 2-dose monkeypox vaccine, enough to immunize 500. That’ll stop a pandemic in its tracks!

“I can report that there has been a request for release of the Jynneos vaccine from the National Stockpile for some of the high-risk contacts of some of the early patients, so that is actively happening right now,” Jennifer McQuiston, deputy director of the Division of High Consequence Pathogens and Pathology at the CDC’s Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases Center, said.
Manufacturers are ramping up production.

Well, if you’re at all familiar with how the related but distinct virus smallpox was eradicated, it was but so-called “ring vaccination”, in which only members of the community who were in contact with the sick person were vaccinated.

That’s why vaccinating for monkeypox will most likely involve a version of what experts call a ring strategy, and focus on immunizing only those with contact with infected individuals. “If a case is reported in the country, a public health SWAT team goes out, finds out who the close contacts are of that first case, and vaccinates just those close contacts, and not the entire city or suburb,” says Freedman. “Because monkeypox is not a virus that is spread mainly through respiratory transmission, you don’t see huge numbers of infected people. So you can do ring vaccination around the known cases.

Biden is still in trouble for saying the word “yes” two days ago, the WH is still in retraction mode.
So, if I were you, I wouldn’t be bragging about Biden having sense.
It’s been 100 days + since he’s been allowed to hold a press conference.
Did you hear of a single Democrat that asked Biden to campaign for them? I didn’t.
Even Stacey Abrams ran away from him faster than a ………..! I’ll leave you to fill in the blank.

Ivermectin has been proven to be effective against the wuhan Chinese/USA gain of research funded bat virus. Bleach is a known killer of viruses and germs. Nobody is injecting bleach which was pushed by the jackal Pelosi. Thanking god that a disinformation pushed potential medicine doesn’t work is about the creepiest idea I have ever heard, because Ivermectin works know matter how much you dislike Joe Rogan, President Trump, and Dr. Malone. The statistics on Africa alone say everything for a scientist, and cannot be disputed by armchair New York Times and Atlantic readers. Greyhound buses and trains are a much better metaphor for a guy who hates urban jungles, says you are not black if you do not vote for him, and loves Robert Byrd, Grand Cyclops of the Kkk, a democrat founded and funded men’s club. So in summary, everything being stated over the msm airwaves in conjunction with their BFF buds, the democrats, would make Mussolini proud. Unfortunately, they didn’t research his demise.

And this is what me and your other commenters were discussing in the comments section of your article about Covid cases going up a few days ago! I made a warning video on YouTube right after that, a few days ago, about Monkeypox. They are now saying it might become endemic in the UK, did you know that? You should literally do what I do every morning, Google “Monkeypox” and click on news. I said in my video people should invest in stocks for companies that make vaccines for it.. I said that when they’d gone up several times in value, they are now going up exponentially in value. Who invests in stocks? Kym, do you know about the two other almost-outbreaks of Monkeypox last year? They most likely came from a Lab in Nigeria. It’s nice you reported on this story, I really hope this doesn’t follow the same pattern as Covid did but I think it might and even be worse. Monkeypox can live on surfaces for weeks, one article I read already said people “may become afraid to try on clothes in NYC” which apparently would hurt the stores ability to sell clothes. Kym, do a bit of Googling now, I cannot comment on these articles on my Phone and am using an annoying old computer to type this. You Google… Google Monkeypox alone, then Google Monkeypox and Vaccine together. Trust me, if it gets to Humboldt it will be bad! If it is not here already!

Well, look at the bright side: now the hand wringers have another disease to fret over and this one appears to be restricted to a certain fringe group of people that likes to be in close proximity to each other. Is the disease itself bigoted???

But the Biden administration* must be breathing a sigh of relief. This new disease and a shooting at a school in Texas will take the focus off of Biden bumbling his way into military action with China.

False and misleading statement. There are 322M people in the US. Only .003% of the us population died of COVID. 6-17% death rate is a damned lie.

And that .003% were most likely ready to die from other ailments.

I will share a few links though. For context, the Monkeypox vaccine is also an attenuated live virus. Read this https://www.npr.org/sections/goatsandsoda/2022/04/26/1092867458/vaccine-derived-polio-is-on-the-rise-a-new-vaccine-aims-to-stop-the-spread and this https://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/vpd/polio/hcp/vaccine-derived-poliovirus-faq.html and this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Attenuated_vaccine because that is why attenuated live virus vaccines are dangerous and I will not be getting a monkeypox or smallpox vaccine. For absolutely different reasons than, for example, the reasons mRNA vaccines are dangerous. It’s like comparing apples not to oranges, but to your metal car.

Nooo

People should read the articles before getting too excited by comments. The various interruptions and misinformation typical of anti vaxxers has lead to interruptions in vaccination programs in places where there is political upheaval. That leave children unprotected so that if the polio attenuated vaccines mutates back and gets into the environment, there are groups who are not protected and epidemics are off and running. So researchers have developed a further weakened vaccine to reduce the chances of that happening. Of course polio vaccine in the US is not that kind and protects without even attenuated virus.

Also the monkey pox vaccine available in the US is not just an attenuated vaccine but a non replication vaccine that can’t cause either small pox or monkey pox. “MVA-BN contains Modified vaccinia Ankara, an attenuated form of the vaccinia virus that does not replicate in human cells and hence does not cause the sometimes serious side effects that are seen with replicating smallpox vaccines” Not that many in the US are likely to need it at all.

It wasn’t actually you this time, it was the company that auto-moderated my comments for having more than three links. However I still have a false copyright claim on my channel that I cannot appeal although I’ve tried 5 times due to the 800 words provided not providing YouTube with enough information. Please, make that go away. You claimed I uploaded the equivalent of your song or poem or painting and claimed it was my own work when I uploaded a clip you used to comment on it and disagree with your reporting. Those are two different types of copyright claims, and you violated the law by claiming my commentary on your news was stealing your art as my own. Please release this claim, it is illegal of you to make such a false claim and actually harmful to me. I have repeatedly filled out a form with my address and information and submitted it to youtube and a federal judge to have this dismissed and been denied because they thought my 800 words was not enough. Please go to your channel and voluntarily dismiss this false claim against my channel. I even agreed with you they should wear masks and made fun of them by offering them masks with Phish logos, I have no idea why you got offended but making some false and illegal claim to harass me/my channel is not ok.

Commenting on a news video on YouTube falls under the fair use doctrine, it is different than copying someone else’s news video and pretending you made it. I did not do that. I even linked to your video and sent you a link to mine, and told people to watch your video and read your news article that I disagreed with. Effectively promoting you even though I disagreed with you. Because I don’t like when YouTubers talk about articles and don’t link to them, I think that is rude. YouTube has now told me I cannot link to certain articles their censors disagree with, which I think is rude. Listen to your “fans” who can be critical and perhaps get rid of your commenting rules which remove opinions that might be controversial but might be enlightening. Don’t be afraid to open your mind. And don’t be afraid to do investigative reporting instead of just repeating the news. That’s why I do “Adrienne Floreen comments on the news” and don’t call it “Adrienne Floreen reads someone else’s press release then goes silent.” You can do this too. I am not being mean or trolling, I am being real.

Care to speculate on his immigration status?

He could have been a US citizen?

Maybe not.

I’m led to despair by right-wing religious demagogues that adamantly refuse to address the key issues confronting American society with these mass shootings — inadequate health care access to deal with mental health issues and largely unrestricted access to semi-automatic firearms combined with a culture that glorifies violence.

I’m not going to argue with you on that, Tim.

I’m beginning to think right and left is merely a wing on the same bird. I enjoy shooting. Target and competition only. I don’t hunt, but would to survive. I don’t know what the answer is to stop these horrific and frequent mass shootings. But access to health care is available, though maybe not as easy as you would like to see it. How many troubled people are seeking it out? What is the trigger for involuntary mental health assessments?

As a nation we need to sit down and have a hard, long discussion about many things. And might be best if we fire all politicians before we have that debate. They shouldn’t be invited and can sit on the outside looking in.

Best I can do is be receptive and less antagonistic on my end in civil debate. The only thing that will stop proliferation of firearms is an amendment to the Constitution. That’s why Congress is unwilling to do anything about guns. They’ll just use these events to pander to their base for votes and nothing will change. But where do we draw the line? I have all types of firearms, and admittedly way more than I need. I’m not willing to let any go for feigned safety. “A free people that give up their rights for perceived safety, deserve neither.” Something to that effect…Ben Franklin.

The one part I’ll agree with. I remember once as a kid, my Mom pulled over on the San Diego freeway and spanked me raw for can’t remember what in full view of every passer by. After that, all that was needed was the threat. Can’t imagine how many laws that would be breaking today. Please do a little more research into that rumor. My understanding is someone grabbed a screenshot of a transgender person with similar features as Salvador Ramos and posted it to social media saying, “this is the shooter.” Now that person is getting death threats and being harassed. Regardless of their lifestyle choice, they neither asked for nor deserve it.

More and more it appears we are becoming Rome. And Rome is falling.
Our 24 hour news cycle and social media gives us all the gore, bizarre and obscene behavior and the spectacle that the Romans saw in the Colosseum as their depravity dragged them down.

Wow. I hadn’t heard that one. This site is about as socially mediated as I get. If what you say, heard, understand, is true, what I find most disturbing is that the kid was killed and folks are still blaming a look-alike.

Monkey pox, prep and don’t attend mass gatherings at electronic dance festivals followed by all the after party extras. Swine flu, don’t worry, the VP has it covered. Burn a street down! Brandon did major damage tonight in his uniting America project because he has never been a mature thoughtful human looking to first help people mourn a major loss before going for the throat out of political expediency. Cmon man!

You might want to avoid Phish concerts also, Google the recent Phish 4/20 concert and the word Covid to find out why. Google is great, I with reporters and commenters alike would use it before typing stuff.
