All of Arcata is on stolen Wiyot land and should be returned to them immediately. These “landlords” are imperialist colonizers.

I think you misspelled Arcata. It’s spelled: America.

The housing prices are a result of the common practice of mom and pop land lording. The practice of purchasing additional single family homes as income properties creates a lower class of renters by artificially lowering housing inventory and increasing costs.Corporate land lords are easy to point the finger at, but make up only a small fraction of land lords in single family homes.

Month-to-month rentals should be limited to no more than 1% of the total number of single family homes, as far less than 1% of people prefer to be renters due to being students or traveling professionals. After considering all costs associated with home purchasing, ownership, and re-selling, anyone living in a home for more than 3-4 years is financially better off owning that home.

Most apartment units should be converted to rent-to-own. That way people can build equity, the only form of savings most Americans have today.

Ownership should be restricted to permanent residents of the county and limited to no more then two single family homes per owner. Imagine the increase in inventory if the lords had to put their additional homes on the market!

If we build more homes, the lords will simply buy them up and keep nearly half of us living as serfs. Housing inventory only considers homes currently listed for sale, not the total number of homes that exist in comparisons to the number of families who would like to own a home.

My last land lord owns 8 single family homes in Eureka and two in Arcata. I know another guy who owns close to 20 single family homes, mostly in Arcata.
