Our reporter, Lisa Music, is at the scene and gathering information. We’ll update as soon as we know more.

UPDATE 8:43 p.m.:  Assistant Chief Alfred Williams from Garberville Fire tells our reporter Lisa Music that a Good Samaritan was walking by the home and saw flames inside the home. The person entered the home and discovered items on an electric stove burning. The person was able to partially extinguish the flames. Then called for the help. The occupants were not at home.

UPDATE 8:55 p.m.: The owners allowed our reporter into the home. They said they hadn’t cooked on the 1953 electric stovetop since the previous day. They believe maybe a short happened.

A very big thank you to the good Samaritan for entering the home and knocking the fire down as much as they could. It probably saved much if not all of the home from burning down. As always, thank you to Garberville Fire, Redway Fire and Cal Fire. You firefighter’s are worth your weight in gold!! Thank you for your time and service.

A covicted arsonist once told me that an electric cook top was a “sure fire’ way to burn down a house. Especially if there were cabinets above it.

Glad all are well and it was caught before it became worse.
But gotta ask…… Did they at least offer the pizza to the fire fighters? 😉

Well done all! But have nagging questions. How did the good Samaritan enter the home? With the occupants gone surely the house was locked. 1953 electric stove top; that date a typo or was the stove top really sixty nine years old? The gas stove in me cabin is seventy five years old. I did not hook it up when I moved in four plus years ago, fear it would be a fire bomb. Use a Crock-Pot for most meals. Precautionary principal in motion.
