On Wednesday May 11th, 2022, The California Highway Patrol, in conjunction with Ferndale High School, will be conducting a simulated drunk driving traffic crash as part of the Every 15 Minutes program.  The crash will be staged in the Ferndale High School parking lot and will begin at approximately 11:00 a.m.  The mock collision will take place for approximately one hour, however, the roadway alongside the school will be closed for several hours to allow for scene set-up and breakdown and there will be a high concentration of emergency vehicles in the area.

Every 15 Minutes is a two-day program which demonstrates to high school students the impact drinking and driving has on friends, families, and their communities.  The first day of the program is highlighted by a simulated traffic crash that will be conducted at the high school involving an impaired teenage driver and a fatally injured victim.  The event includes emergency responses from police, fire, ambulance, coroner, and tow truck companies, just as an actual crash would require.  The program will conclude with a mock funeral and assembly for students on Thursday May 12th, 2022, which will begin at approximately 9:00 a.m

I hope the teens are smart enough to take this seriously. With bars in most restaurants and a lot of other places, along with so many dispensaries this program is two days compared to every day advertising of these dangerous products. Then there’s the street drugs available on almost any corner.

Hopefully the first responders will be the good role models chosen to follow instead of the countless bad role models they see every day.

A similar program is needed for distracted driving, which is as bad a DUI.

such a dumb program! Too bad they didnt have it when that Baker kid crashed his car drunk into Ruth Lake killing three people before he got off only serving 3 years in prison, if even that long. His family has tons of money so of course he got off with a slap. So dumb!!! What a joke!! Then he got kicked out of the military for drinking! Kid needs prison NOW

Jenny, if you think it is such a dumb program what do you suggest we do in its place? I give the California Highway Patrol high marks for taking major strides in trying to stop our young people from drinking and driving. You should be supporting them instead of bringing up an accident that happened a long time ago. I agree that the Baker jerk needs to be reeled in and placed in prison for a long time. Life would suit me just fine!!

A dumb program? Wow… So trying to teach school-age kids the reality of drinking and driving is dumb… OK I’m totally dumbfounded. If it saves even one life then it’s not dumb and if it makes kids think twice about what they’re doing instead of just doing it without thinking about it then it’s not dumb. [edit] Are you gonna think it’s dumb if it saves your life?

Get out of here with your irrelevant comments if you have something to bitch about maybe you should think of something better for these high schoolers instead of being a keyboard warrior. And as far as baker maybe instead bashing people for who they were try to think of what he’s doing now for the community.

I gave up on distracted drivers when computers were place in the dashboard of new vehicles. Driving has becoming a combat zone.

I hope the negative Nancy’s who want to complain about the program on the article itself and comments, don’t ever loose someone to a DUI fatality. It’s horrific. It changes you. You start to see things differently. The what ifs never end. Your person is gone so quick, well if the person is lucky and doesn’t lay there suffering alone. Of course the driver almost always survives. There are often no goodbyes. No hugs. No phone calls. If JUST ONE of those kids remember these demonstrations and make better choices it’s worth it.
