Ukiah’s Alyssa Mae Sawdey, Once Thought a Victim of an Internet-Invented Serial Killer, Died Accidentally from ‘Acute Methamphetamine Toxicity’, Says MCSO

In January of this year, the deaths of two Mendocino County women fueled a viral internet rumor that a serial killer could be preying upon North Coast women.

Today, the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office made public their findings regarding Alyssa Sawdey, the 22-year-old woman found deceased on the 3600 block of Ukiah’s Christy Lane.

MCSO states that Sawday died from “acute methamphetamine toxicity” and there were not any noted “significant contributory factors”.

Detectives reportedly “interviewed multiple people who had information related to Sawdey’s activities prior to her death”.

Based on these interviews, evidence from the scene, and the autopsy report, her death is being classified as an “accidental death.”

The other Mendocino County woman,33-year-old Willits woman Amber Dillon, was found deceased right over the Mendocino/Sonoma County line on January 8, just days before the discovery of Sawdey. Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office Violent Crimes Detectives reportedly surveyed the scene where Dillon was found.

We have reached out to SCSO for any updates regarding Dillon’s cause of death and have yet to hear back.

The two women’s deaths in close geographical and chronological proximity became fodder for a viral internet rumor that would claim a serial killer was responsible for their deaths along with one woman in Sonoma County, one in Napa County, and one even in Sacramento County.

Troy Driver, a former Mendocino County man who was involved in a 1997 Willits homicide, is currently the lead suspect in the death of 18-year-old Nevada woman Naomi Irion. Her death, Driver’s arrest, and his geographic connection to Mendocino County have led internet sleuths to postulate Driver could be the serial killer that killed these women on the North Coast.

As the public waits for more information regarding the deaths of these other women that internet sleuths speculated were victims of a serial killer, we want to express our deepest condolences to Alyssa Mae Sawdey’s family.

The following is the press release from MCSO regarding their investigation into the death of Alyssa Mae Sawdey:

On 03-29-2022, the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office Coroner’s Division completed its investigation into the death of Alyssa Sawdey.

The investigation determined Sawdey’s cause of death as being “Acute Methamphetamine Toxicity” with no other significant contributory factors.

Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office Detectives have also been actively investigating this case since 01-11-2022 and interviewed multiple people who had information related to Sawdey’s activities prior to her death.

Based on those interviews, scene investigations and the finalized autopsy report, Sawdey’s death has been classified as being an accidental death.

The Sheriff’s Office would like to extend our condolences to Alyssa Sawdey’s family and thank the community for their assistance during this investigation.

Sure she may have died from methamphetamine toxicity. Yet it does not explain why she was found in a ditch on the side of the road and a very odd place. Hard to believe so spun out that she would just wander there on her own. Did somebody overdose her on purpose that’s never been heard of before! There needs to be some more investigating who was the dealer, who took her there? Merely saying oh she died from a methamphetamine overdose excuses them from any other responsibilities or looking at issues.

Didn’t mention anything about a serial killer. Somebody gave/sold her the dope. With how she liked to wear her makeup and her hair, highly doubt that she walked to the ditch by herself. Not a serial killer but some a****** partying with her who didn’t like the way she was sliding out so they dumped her before it was on their hands. A more common occurrence than we think. 💔

I won’t forget how the wonderful junkie deadheads rolled Kurt out of the tent to finish his OD and die. This was at Chief Hosa during Red Rocks. My friend was working w/ the Hog Farm and found the body. How could people be so cold? Well…they are junkies and drug addicts… I met Kurt through his sister and had seen him marry Little Wing at the Rainbow Gathering up in Modoc ’84. From white light to darkness…first the GD scene and then the NorCal grow scene and now a generation of kids on bad drugs. I’m w/ you and your concerns Mendocino Momma…

Oh man the festival overdoses. I’ve seen way too many of those too. Miss Molly at Reggae RIP. You’re you’re absolutely correct if there is an intervention sometimes that people can be saved. But that doesn’t mean that they don’t go to do it another day. Society needs to get on the front end of all this addiction because in the end it’s going to cost all of us everything. No one to work in the stores. No one to work in the hospitals and care for the elderly. Parents abandon their children, calling them evil. Broken relationships left and right. Increasing homelessness. No ability to hold down jobs. Domestic violence the list goes on and on and all of those things hold the hand of addiction quite tightly. 💔

I dunno, I saw a man in the ditch along side 36 near Bridgeville last week who appeared to be smoking something out of a pipe made from a soda can. Heavy amphetamine use isn’t typically correlated with reasonable, predictable behavior in my experience.

Not certain where you gleaned that pearl from but the information is slightly off. I found a pretty good article about the crisis occurring across the United States.

I have sold plenty of pot in my pass but never dealt death.
I wonder how the person who sold her the dope feels today?
Good thing that crap robs Conscience and soul. Otherwise people couldn’t live with themselves

Lots of people have sold alcohol, and it kills far more people than meth.

Matt is so pro anti serial, it seems he is being paid by the killers himself. FBI states one whom kills twice is a serial, so to think none of the , at least 51 that resolve in CA, don’t live in the north sounds unethical from a professional view, never mind the influx of crazy flooding the state do to free money. So yes, Matt is right, no serial killers.

Makes me believe that Matt just wants to be a bad boy, whom appears fixated on evil and the gruesome. Sad but the new norm.

So anyway, think about all the nasty dope growers that term trimmers as expendable, luckily they only are allowed to kill, once, then they get converted and start a cool blog and become a teacher or some other honored professional.

Funny how being woke will get you invited to great parties, but you are never joyous and have to play pretend.

You sound a little “anti Matt” with your rant. I don’t read anything that says he is “anti-serial”, or that he doesn’t believe that a serial killer might live in the north part of the state. All he is doing is stating information about this woman’s death that he obtained from the Mendocino Sheriff’s Office, nothing unethical, fixated, or gruesome about that. I may not like all of the stories Matt prints, but he is doing a better job of keeping us informed than the MSM are doing. You on the other hand have a good chance of being one of CNN’s finer reporters. Sorry this young lady lost her life to a true serial killer before she got the help she needed.

I’m literally almost the same age, and I’ve never once had a single mention of that being a thing around Mendocino county, let alone a huge thing.

So she o.d.’d and someone dumped her? That’s a crime isn’t it? And if it’s found that Amber Dillon died of acute meth toxicity? Serial killer back on the table?

So, no charges against the individuals that didn’t call 911 which may have saved her and instead dumped Alyssa’s body along the road in front of several businesses? Wow!

This one creepy ass guy I don’t know if he’s around anymore he used to hang out at all the casinos much older super skinny imagine that hahaha. Anyway he would pick up all the young chicks and get them way wasted on dope do a bunch of nasty s*** to them. Bring them home and have his wife watch. He would tell all of us ladies at work his creepy stories. Not saying he is at serial killer but who knows if he ever OD’d anybody accidentally. The things people do to chase money and power sometimes are really tragic, wind up with addiction or worse. Rest in peace Miss Alyssa.💔
