A Mendocino County Woman and Male Companion Arrested with Multiple Firearms in Mexico— Pair Suspected in the Disappearance of Another American

Devan Young and Natalia Baigorri after being arrested by Mexican police [All photographs from Policia Municipal Tulum via The Yucutan Times]

Mexican police pulled over 25-year-old Mendocino County woman, Natalia Baigorri, and 32-year-old Arizona man, Devan Young, as they were driving on a highway near Tulum this last Saturday, February 26.

The traffic stop would result in the pair being taken into custody after police located two 9mm Glocks, a .22 caliber rifle, multiple rounds of ammunition, and the passport of an American.

Reporting in The Yucutan Times and The Daily Mail provided information on this couple, the arrest, and the ongoing investigation.

A Mexican television network Noticieros Televisa reported the couple is thought to be linked to “a string of criminal incidents in the country and also connected to the disappearance of an American individual.”

*Removed

Along with the firearms and ammunition, Mexican police located what was described as “a sensor that detects if security cameras are functioning” and an American passport of a 28-year-old man. It is unknown whether or not the passport belongs to the missing American Baigorri and Young are linked to.

The identification cards of the pair

Baigorri is from the coastal town of Mendocino. Young is from Arizona and the identification card he provided indicated he is a tribal member of the Erie Indian Moundbuilders in Arizona.

Baigorri and Young have yet to be formally charged, according to reporting in the Daily Mail, and a spokesperson for Mexico’s Office of the Attorney General’s regional station in Cancún “could not say when they are expected to appear in court.”

*per the request of the person who owned the passport, we have removed the image of it and his name.

Entering Mexico with a firearm, or even a single round of ammunition, carries a penalty of up to five years in prison, even if the firearm or ammunition is taken into the country unintentionally. (I live 35 minutes from the border.)

entering the country with fire arm and no paperwork is illegal. you can, with enough stamina and money, file paperwork and pay to bring a rifle into Mexico to hunt.

Huh. Obama, and Holder invented the ATF? The DEA? I thought they existed prior the Obama administration. Maybe Obama and Holder pulled all the agents off their previous nice assignments, and put them on gun running to Mexico. Maybe before Obama, no federal agents ever had dumb ideas, or ever considered getting co-opted by drug money. I mean Prison camp freedom fighter Joe Arpaio never engaged in South-of-the-Border shenanigans…

I’ve spent a lot of time in Baja. More time, in fact, than most of my Mexican friends have spent anywhere in Mexico. My dad always told me $20 will get you out of most bogus traffic stops. This, even if it’s bogus, is going to take A LOT of money.

When I got searched in Mexico, I pissed my pants, literally. Made me miss the good ole USA for sure. Them Police don’t play around, are a lot of snitching going on. Dealer sells you a bag, tells the police, you are holding, Dealer gets his bag back, you get ruined.

Our Lady appeared in Mexico because the peoples had super strong faith. Always felt respect for the Mexican people because of the faith the have. I mean they probably as a race can out pray anyone at Church. Beautiful Culture and the Image of the Virgin Mary that people held so dear, Defies Science as in Optometry, NASA, Astronomers, Exc , but different story.

Truly hope they don’t get to wounded going through Mexico’s system of justice. Hope they can return home some day, and realize how lucky they are , living in the USA. Not saying its all great, but the Greatest to wave that flag…

I’ve had the nicest experience in Mexico. The Rosarita Chief of Police carried my bags to my bungalow because I was using 2 canes to walk. We sat on the beach and talked border security. I left an expensive camera in a dressing room and the clerk tracked me down to return it and refused a reward. A crew of young boys washed and waxed my truck for $5 then guarded it until my return…I got a flat tire and locals stopped to assist me. The list goes on.

I’ve mostly had good experiences. Never any run in with the law. Worst time was eating some bad fish from a street cart. Yeah, I know. And I did know better then too. My fault really. Got Montezuma’s pretty good. A glass of water went through me before I could finish the cup. Another time, a buddy and I and our gals went to TJ one night. A couple of young guys started hassling us so we ducked into a club. They followed but kept a distance. When we left, the bouncer stopped the guys and let us get away. That was a big city at night, so, you know, shit happens, but it’s rare. The people as a whole, just like anywhere, are warm and kindhearted. Actually, more so than on this side of the border. I’ve the best times with many a stranger. But there are a few mal manzanas.

And to reply to tainted’s comment, I don’t know about drug dealers down there, but, again to quote my Dad, “cops and taxi drivers both have radios. Be cool around both.”

Oh yeah, and when you paddle out, there’s almost no lineup. Give the kid on the beach a few bucks and you’ve got your own personal security. It’s basically pocket fuzz for you, but it makes his day. If his Dad stops by your camp in the eve, kick down a beer. Sometimes the kid has a dog you can play with too.

Actually where they were at was not the bowels of Mexico It’s a very Ritzy high class area with lots of resorts and very nice hotels. Maybe you’ve never been to Mexico especially lately the last 15 years it’s very nice. Downtown LA is way worse. You never see people down there sleeping in tents on the street. Yes there’s still an underground where you can get all kinds of stuff and their parents will be able to get them out of this just find the right palms to grease.
Maybe you should comment on anything that you don’t personally know about

when traveling down there now, you should expect not only la policia to stop you for a shakedown but roadblocks run by locals who will stop you w a rope across the road for a toll and also to know who you are and where youre going.. best to stop and pay it.. theyre happy to have americans there.. except maybe these two. all the good honest hard working mexican people are just trying to combat the crime, cartels and corrupt police themselves.

Nah. I’ve got a friend who did 22 mos in a. Mexican jail when he was boarded off the coast of Cabo San Lucas. They found the parts of a disassembled 9 mm and 100 rounds. He forgot they were there. Maybe? Either way. Boat sold and he was detained and charged and did 22 mos. nothing anyone could do to get him released. The money his parents thought would free him was balked at by the system down there.

Know LA is the bowels, and as some famous YouTuber stated, if you don’t believe in Satan, go take a walk on the streets of LA. That dude was or got so converted after a late night stroll, he quote was something like, ” Satan is real.” But seeing most are pampered, mad at God, and go for Woke. One can’t be hip, and believe, because its way too uncool. Not I, for I believe and although I live in the valley of death, I often pray, let me please not fear the evil…

Hey Now- by the time the wrecking crew was seen as “elders of the scene” and set examples for the new heads you know that lot was a cesspool. Can’t trust a single head from the 90’s lot scene as the message was seriously twisted and corrupted. Still somehow a few good people came through- not many. Jerry was my only elder, and the Sisters usually set the examples. I always thought the “Wrecking Crew was always part of the problem,” however I heard they would beat up sexual perps from time to time, or chase off a ” bunkster.” Glad those days are gone for me, always got chastised for trying to make money and risk my future, always got “schooled” if I drank a beer or got wasted on the lot, and always got “corrected” if I got out of line by the true Family. They really guided me, to be a shining light. Thanks Family, You really encouraged me to spread peace, love, and happiness. Know I will try and pick up that ole candle, relight it, instead of cursing the darkness, much love, RIP Jerry, and my mom, my only true love…

Prison s depend on which state you are in and Quintana Roo has not a good one Yucatan has a good one. They will not have a good time and if they are mixed up with the cartel the cartel will not recognize them and now days not so much corruption in the police to get out of something like this with money. Yeah, they are a thing. Not a federally recognized tribe, but they are incorporated. 😛 I haven’t really read too much about them, but the original Erie ceased to exist as a people over 350 years ago, wiped out by the smallpox and the bellicose Iroqouis Confederacy. The few survivors were absorbed by the Seneca.

I guess the “Erie Indian Moundbuilders” must have an office in Arizona. I seem to remember they were trying to get a casino going somewhere.
