[UPDATE 7:47 p.m.] High Speed Chase on 101

Vehicle PursuitA high speed chase that we first began following in Eureka is now nearing Fortuna, according to the scanner.

At times the suspect vehicle, possibly a silver Infinity, has topped 100 mph but, as of 7:35 p.m. The suspect, a male approximately 6 feet tall, is keeping the speed about 75 mph.

Law enforcement speaking over the scanner is talking spike strips and a K-9.

The CHP is currently taking over.

Please remember that this story is unfolding. Information is being reported as we gather it. However, some of the information coming from witnesses and initial official reports could be wrong. We will do our best to get the facts but, in the case that something is inaccurate, we will update with correct information as soon as we can.

UPDATE 7:40 p.m.: A spike strip was deployed near the Main Street exit to Fortuna on Hwy 101. Right after passing the area, the suspect vehicle began slowing. A felony stop was initiated. A driver and a passenger were detained.

UPDATE 7:47 p.m.: A law enforcement officer told dispatch to send a tow for a vehicle with two flat front tires which makes it more likely that the spike strip was successful.

Too damn stupid to be allowed to drive a vehicle. Pull their license for ten years.

I listened to this on the scanner. He was going 100 mph at Herrick, then up to 115. He made it from Broadway to Fortuna in 6 minutes…in wet conditions. So glad he didn’t kill someone on the road!

75 mph is pretty normal on 101. Not exactly “high speed”

115 mph is pretty stupid on 101. And yes, definitely “high speed “.

So I encountered this guy. I was in the middle lane facing north attempting to turn left at W hawthorne, I was stopped at the light waiting for the protected turn, a minute later I see emergency lights in the distance, they keep coming closer. A few moments later I see this silver coupe/sedan accelerating in front of me for a moment I was wondering if I was going to be in a head on collision, at the last second he turns to my left narrowly avoiding our vehicle followed by what felt like the entirety of EPD.

I hope they’re banned from ever holding a license again. I have worse private thoughts on what should happen to this person but I’ll leave it at that.

For you or I and most folks, no license would be a deterrent. But someone willing to run from cops at over a ton, ‘scuse me, that’s the motorcyclist in me, at over 100mph, probably wouldn’t think twice.

First…how did they know he was 6 feet tall … sitting in a vehicle traveling at over 100mph, in the dark?

First thing my wife interrupted with (almost word for word) while I was reading the article aloud.
