I lived in sf 15 years ago right adjacent to the park, 19th and fultton. The level of bum trail has turned something serious. It’s really unfortunate how dangerous it is now to walk through that same area. Not many people will actually hurt you, but they’ll sure act like it and make you fear for your life. Very unfortunate. Too many people, too little enforcement, too much human poo, and it’s not anyone’s fault but the way of the world. Still better and safer than many other places, but not the happy hippie community it used to be

Certainly didn’t help when the da issued a statement about not prosecuting theft under 500$ or 1k$? Forget exactly. What’s the average amount of cars broken into per day these days? A couple hundred last time I saw it. Good luck catching and punishing everyone. But if you defend yourself of property you get the book thrown at you usually. Really difficult balance to keep
