Disgraced Ukiah Police Sergeant Kevin Murray Cited in Lake County for Taking Woman’s Wallet While on Bail—Allegedly Stole $16, Earrings, and a 9mm Bullet

Kevin Murray

Former Ukiah Police Department Sergeant Kevin Murray.

Former Ukiah Police Department Sergeant Kevin Murray has found himself once again at the wrong end of the law. Yesterday, February 10, 2022, Murray was cited for his alleged role in the theft of a woman’s wallet from a Lakeport grocery store while out on bail for multiple felonies in Mendocino.

According to Lakeport Police Department Chief Brad Rasmussen, on the afternoon of November 30, 2021, Murray came into the Lakeport Police Department and turned in a wallet he reportedly found at a grocery store.

Approximately one hour later, LPD received a report that a separate grocery store’s surveillance system had captured footage of a man grabbing a woman’s wallet off a store shelf after she accidentally left it there.

Chief Rasmussen said his officers responded to the scene, reviewed surveillance footage provided by the business, and found that the man seen on video grabbing the wallet was the very same man that had entered Lakeport Police Department earlier that afternoon claiming to have found a wallet and felt the need to turn it into authorities.

Investigating officers provided the woman the wallet that had been turned in and determined three items were taken from within: a pair of earrings, $16, and a singular 9mm bullet.

>Murray’s rap sheet is extensive and infamous for charges ranging from possession of methamphetamine, forced oral copulation, and rape.

He currently awaits trial for multiple criminal complaints. One complaint is the result of a 2014 incident in which Murray is alleged to have raped a woman referred to as “Jane Doe” forcing oral copulation while in possession of a firearm.

Another criminal complaint filed against Murray by the Mendocino County District attorney accuses Murray of an incident where he forced the woman, in that case, to touch his “penis against her will, for the purpose of sexual arousal, sexual gratification, or sexual abuse.” Within that criminal complaint, Murray is also accused of burglary, possession of methamphetamine, and violation of civil rights from excessive use of force.

Murray and his actions are the primary focus of a civil suit filed against the Ukiah Police Department and the City of Ukiah by a former female UPD officer. Murray allegedly sexually assaulted her and after reporting it to her superiors, this former UPD officer purportedly faced a work culture of discrimination and retaliation.

Murray is also the focus of a 2018 civil suit filed and won by Ukiah resident Christopher Rasku. The suit stated Murray entered Rasku’s home unlawfully, knocking him unconscious, and proceeded to punch and kick him, causing broken ribs, a punctured lung, and nerve damage. The lawsuit resulted in a significant payout for Rasku.

On January 29, 2021, Chief Justin Wyatt announced to the public Kevin Murray was “no longer employed with the Ukiah Police Department” and asserted the department “reached out to the District Attorney immediately and asked for a criminal investigation into Murray’s conduct the evening of November 25, 2020.” During this statement, Chief Wyatt stated Murray’s actions “in no way reflects the standards of the city of Ukiah or the Ukiah Police Department.”

As per a document filed by the Deputy District Attorney Heidi C. Larson, Mendocino County is actively petitioning to revoke Murray’s bail having “received a crime report from Lakeport Police Department”

The criminal trial against Kevin Murray and his litany of charges is scheduled for March 14, 2022.

With due respect to the victims of the circumstances described, it must be stated that the charges Murray stands accused of have not been proven in a court of law. In accordance with the legal principle of the presumption of innocence, any individual described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty.

The dude is a menace to society..It’s scary to think he was an ex-cop, and a sergeant at that.. They waited until Jan 29th 2021 to fire him? Sounds like they need a whole new police department.

Not to defend any other bad players but…
He was fired very soon after the allegations were made.

The article doesn’t say when the UPD female officer reported her assault, but she got retribution instead of an investigation and results.

The 2018 assault apparently had no criminal charges or the ‘investigation’ was dismissed by UPD until the civil case was won.

He WAS a cop.
He IS an ex-cop.

Although, the term “cop” should be used loosely.

You’re gonna have a full day correcting all the grammatical errors on this board. May as well correct punctuation while you’re at it.

The other definition of “cop” is to swipe something. Who carries around a 9mm bullet in their wallet, anyway?

The people responsible for hiring him, training him, and supervising him are still cops though, and that’s the problem. Hard to respect any police in that department; can’t just fire one guy and wash your hands of the situation.

Why not…You don’t fire everyone at Amazon because one employee made an error in judgment…Same applies to LEO’s…

Nah, but Bozos stepping down is a good start. C’mon, how big does your ego (or small something else) have to be to send a giant steely dan into space?

“Chief Wyatt stated Murray’s actions ‘in no way reflects the standards of the city of Ukiah or the Ukiah Police Department.'”

“Murray allegedly sexually assaulted her and after reporting it to her superiors, this former UPD officer purportedly faced a work culture of discrimination and retaliation.”

Sounds like Murray DOES reflect the standards of the Ukiah Police Department. What’s that saying about “a few bad apples?” Oh yeah, “they spoil the rest of the barrel.”

More like the standards of Mendocino county Govt.
The ukiah police Dept caught stealing
The Mendocino county sheriffs are in a lawsuit for stealing
The District Attorney also in the lawsuit would steal money for “restitution” in cannabis cases.

Lakeport has had an arrest warrant out for him since late Jan. Gee, I wonder why they haven’t arrested him yet. He can’t be that hard to find.

Why he was even released out into the public is the real question.
A culture of tolerance for miscreants perhaps?

Curious as to what his bail amount would look like compared to your “average tweaker.”

Your average tweaker is almost always either cited and released or completely ignored.

I got my black shirt on
I got my black gloves on
I got my ski mask on
This shit’s been too long

I got my twelve gauge sawed off
I got my headlights turned off
I’m ’bout to bust some shots off
I’m ’bout to dust some cops off

I’m cop killer, it’s better you than me
Cop killer, fuck police brutality!
Cop killer, I know your family’s grievin’ (fuck ’em!)
Cop killer, but tonight we get even, haha!

I got my brain on hype
Tonight I’ll be your night
I got this long-assed knife
And your neck looks just right

My adrenaline’s pumpin’
I got my stereo bumpin’
I’m ’bout to kill me somethin’
A police stopped me for nuthin’!

Cop killer, it’s better you than me
Cop killer, fuck police brutality!
Cop killer, I know your mama grievin’ (fuck ’em!)
Cop killer, but tonight we get even, yeah!

Die, die, die, pig, die!

Cop killer, it’s better you than me
I’m cop killer, fuck police brutality!
Cop killer, I know your family’s grievin’ (fuck ’em!)
Cop killer, but tonight we get even, hahahaha, yeah!

Fuck the police! Yeah
Fuck the police! For Darryl Gates
Fuck the police! For Rodney King
Fuck the police! For my dead homies
Fuck the police! For your freedom
Fuck the police! Don’t be a pussy
Fuck the police! Have some muthafuckin’ courage
Fuck the police! Sing along…

Cop killer!
Cop killer!
Cop killer!
Cop killer!

Cop killer! (What do you want to be when you grow up?)
Cop killer! (Good choice)
Cop killer!
I’m a muthafuckin’ cop killer!

Ukiah PD has had a long history of problems. Years ago they had two officers playing tag team sex with a 17 yo female cadet. They were given the option of quitting and retaining a good reference. One officer went to work in FtBragg and the other one fought it getting fired.

One issue in general with cops is there are so many false accusations that when you have a real problem no one believes it.

I was in Ukiah today getting groceries, and the little black Ukiah PD cars and suv’s were all over the place, like angry bees. Two were on one car in a gas station parking lot, and two others travelled in tandem driving aggressively. I wonder if the rest of that rotten police dept. is trying to reclaim force after the canning of Kevin Murray. It was all I could do to keep from yelling out the window at them, “Keep your dick in your drawers!”

There’s nothing right about letting that serial rapist, thief, burglar, bugger, drunk, meth head, and bad father of four teenagers/pre-teens off without jail time.

And what about child protective services investigating the homelife of those four kids? Living with a badged, entitled victimizer such as Murray can’t be healthy. Kids should be free’d from bad parents who’ve lost all sense of reason. Wifey, too, is guilty of being a perpetrator to her own kids. Wouldn’t be the first mother to step aside to let her husband have his way with the kids. Gotta be a sick culture in that unhealthy household.
