“Cannabis will always be the headliner,” shares Rama Mayo, the founder and creator of Green Street Festival. “There is no greater recognized symbol of excellence in the weed nation than the Emerald Cup Awards and we are thrilled to share the stage at our inaugural event with them in this partnership. Our union is the convergence of two massive powerhouse entities in the culture of cannabis. Emerald Cup delivers on the heritage and community that enhances the experience that we are manifesting at Green Street Festival. Gary, our team, and I could not be more proud to partner with their organization as we bring the best cannabis, food, and music to one place.”

Hosting the iconic awards show for it’s 18th annual competition at the Green Street Festival enhances the roster of headliners already in attendance at the entertaining & immersive festival experience. Featuring the world’s top artists, musicians, thought leaders and restaurants around Los Angeles, the event, with programming on May 13 and 14th, 2022, expects over 7,000 attendees with special performances by Juicy J & Friends, Gary Vaynerchuk, Harry Mack (Live) and many more to be announced.

“The road to the Cup ends at the Green Street Festival” adds Emerald Cup founder and author, Tim Blake. “This is a truly historic moment for Los Angeles as they open the doors to consumer cannabis events in Downtown Los Angeles. Following the success of our Harvest Ball, which started our journey to the Cup, we are absolutely thrilled to join the Green Street Festival team as they bring our community together in the heart of the city and lift our awards to the stage of the largest cannabis market in the world. This triumphant return of our annual live awards show is our first entrance to Los Angeles and we could not have chosen better partners for this debut. Rama and his team at Green Street have created a powerful ecosystem and they’ve done a wonderful job in creating a platform of engagement for us to shine. We’re eager to unify our northern and southern communities as we raise the Cup and recognize the best of California Cannabis.”

The competition entry window is currently open and the application deadline has been extended to Friday, February 11, 2022 at 4:00pm PST. A full spectrum of cannabis excellence will be chosen based on specific criteria including the smell, taste, look and the high, carefully judged under strict discretion.

After hours of testing and debate, many judges will offer an inside look into the secretive judging experience, allowing fans and followers all over the world to share their personal preferences and colorful commentary through their social media. No stranger to the judge’s table themselves, Taylor Blake – Executive Producer of the Emerald Cup – and Competition Director Victoria Shea, have successfully created an intricate system of management for over 50 categories. Across the industry, being an Emerald Cup judge is one of the highest honors one can receive in cannabis. The loyal Emerald Cup community looks to these experts to put forth the industry’s top-tier reputable brands and farms. The recognition from peers and consumers alike that comes along with an Emerald Cup achievement can be transformational for a brand as it highlights their commitment to the culture by crafting clean high quality cannabis. The California cannabis market is stronger when united and the 2022 Emerald Cup Awards will bridge the gap between the NorCal and SoCal markets, providing more opportunities for farmers and brands and new options for consumers.

Never mind trying to walk the streets at night. To whom don’t believe in the demonic, dare you to walk those streets. The book based on the first movie ” the conjuring,” pretty much woke me up from my sleep and slumber. Tough to be woke…Pray for our deceased, they might let you cut in line to meet Jerry…

The ultimate sell-out! Hey Tim- most of us saw right through you when you started hyping and marketing our culture at your Czech Lodge location. I was called salty for speaking my mind then…You came, You saw, You took. You took it to L.A. -where your heart always belonged…

I’m not gonna pay $500 to enter… that’s the same price we were selling our whole pounds for. I’m not one of Tims friends, so that pretty much eliminates my chances of winning anyways.

Guess I’ll leave this article about Flo Kana here…didn’t want to crowd up the comments where somebody died. I think Kym is doing a great job with her site. Maybe we need a specific place where business can be discussed? The comments get crowded and crazy (I contribute to that!) and the threads can be difficult to follow and then 2 days later they’ve all rolled into the archives ha ha! Anyways…Flo Kana…I’m not sure I agree with the article’s presentation of them as originally “helping small growers”. IMO small growers who got permits never had a chance under the model of “legalization” we were attacked with…….https://mjbizdaily.com/once-lofty-future-of-flow-cannabis-co-and-flow-kana-brand-now-uncertain/

//”“At the end of the day, I felt like they used the farmers and the product that they got to be able to attract more investment capital.”//

FKana was always what I call a ‘story company’ — an entitity that focused on selling a story to investors rather than on a working business model. Anytime you have dramatic change and opportunity in a market, the story companies the ride wave of ignorance and greed to line their founder’s and other insider pockets.

Their first big investor was that guy who owns the band Moon Alice. The famous “pay to play” band. He made big money with an early computer tech company in silicon valley. Real rich guy who bought his way into the music world by hiring excellent musicians and making them play his really crappy songs. But they gave away posters and he kept paying festivals to include his band so they kept playing everywhere and eventually hippies just fell for his bullshit due to the repetition. Then he told everybody to vote for legalization because we would all be free and it would be wonderful. But he really just used that to get even more money. He positioned himself, he tricked stupid hippies and he made yet another bundle. Greedy rich people-there is no end to what they want because they want it all. Still in these music circles nobody wants to say anything bad about him because he has power through his money. It’s all pretty sick… But that guy’s a real douche.

Great article, thanks for the link. Noteworthy in the context of small farmers being used as poster children by another slick organization, HCGA.

“The most valued currency in the Emerald Triangle is your loyalty to
people,” Humboldt County-based farmer John Casali said. “Your word is
your bond here – this is our community, and these are our values. They
let us down.”

The same farmer who was recently in an RHBB article/interview at HCGA sponsored Measure S Rally advocating for a repeal of taxes… with no specification on the structure of this tax repeal. So large corporate, out of state players would benefit from this proposed tax relief, too.

Similar small farmers were rallied recently, by HCGA, to help squash any real, substantive response by the BOS to the Planning Commission’s request for guidance on permitting large industrial scale cultivation projects relying exclusively on wells, generators, and absurdly inadequate rural roads. People, if you’re doing it right, you have nothing to fear. WTF. Why run interference on policy changes that would benefit the community, environment, Humboldt brand, and the small farmer? How is that for supporting the community and it’s values?

Moral of this story: seems like it would be prudent to beware of representing interests counter to one’s own. I respect and empathize with the plight of the small farmer but it’s hard to watch their narrative get co-opted and used for the benefit of the people putting them out of business, and destroying the environment, over and over again. People were warned about Flow Kana. This isn’t a big surprise… use small farmers to capture the market and then sell them out.

I get it, we all want to believe that someone with that much cash and capital has your best interest at heart and will help you. They won’t. They never will. What’s the answer? Organize. A real co-operative; collective action by and for small farmers only.

Cannabis festivals are moribund. The days of getting people’s 215 info is over. Good riddance. I hope weed can be sold in gas stations just like beer. Greedy Growers ruined beautiful Humboldt. They’ll be growing top quality organic weed in the Central Valley for a fraction of the price.

“Greedy Growers ruined beautiful Humboldt.”
No!
We, the community, the citizens, business owners, retired people, ad infinitum…WE sold out. WE have chosen to be complicit with the street drug industry and all that entails for decades and decades.
Who chose to be complicit? Easy, just take a glance in the mirror.

your wrong. Great pot is not grown in huge quantities. The commercial ops I see all grow for mass product and B grade weed is just fine to a lot of the consumers. Ive spent many hours repairing structural issues in greenhouses in the central valley. There will be a market for humco bud but its gonna be small in comparison to the past exploits we have seen. ive been in the horticulture industry for many decades and cannabis is not my main source of income.

I disagree, it is important news and sunlight (in this case publishing and allowing open comments) is the best way for people to know. Hiding or not publishing it would not change anything and besides, you could always skip the article if you are triggered (the headline should have provided you a warning).

Why is it even called “The Emerald Cup” if it’s gonna take place in helLA? This is an extreme case of cultural appropriation, and a very sad comment on the demise of the Triangle in the post-“legalization” (actually neoprohibitionist) era… Anyone that didn’t see this coming with the passage of Prop 64 was either purposefully ignorant or blissfully naive.

Tim has totally sold out….

I recognize only one of the judges names. Who the hell are all these others?

It now just an L.A. technopop show with pot.

I think Tim should go back to L.A. & STAY THERE !

Meditate on THAT, Tim !!!

//The 2022 judges are an industry leading who’s who of the cannabis industry and culture//

They are the cannabis culture we gotta give’em props. They can’t have any of us weed culture or war on drugs culture “whos” around. Hard to tell the story of their plight and suffering they endured during medical legalization. Let them have it as long as they keep retail prices high we non cannabis who’s are thankful.

Dunno who this cannabis who’s who this is but who-yeah, lol. $30 an eighth, they ain’t even added taxes yet which is another $10 easy.

Who’s who? Didn’t recognize a single name. My guy, when/if I still want “the shit”, flies under the radar. He pays the bills and doesn’t advertise. All those big names (so you say they are) wanna get paid big time, so, the bud ain’t worth the cost.

Now maybe if there was a contest for movies . . . oh, wait, there is and I still don’t care to watch.

May be old (from Nov, 2021) news to some of you. San Bernardino Sheriff is seizing money from mj stores by stopping armored cars (that are carrying mj store cash), seizing the cash and turning it over to the FBI.
FBI says it may share some of cash with Sheriff’s dept.

Canadians own the Cup now, Tim is just the frontman so noone knows he sold out. He sold the triangle farmers out pushing prop 64 with his right hand man at the time Dustin Moore. His whole event is based on a fraud and farce and everyone bought it. Now you can see the sellout in all it’s glory. Just another ploy to pump and dump at the cultures expense.

Boris is the COO of Papa and Barkley that started Papas Select. He’s judging solventless? So you get to judge your own products now? If that’s not rigged what is? And Guy on flowers? How do these company execs get to judge a competition they flood with entries in every category and call it a fair contest?
