[UPDATE] Reports of Large Law Enforcement Presence Heading East on Alderpoint Road

public informationWe received a report around 9:15 a.m. from a Redheaded Blackbelt reader that a large law enforcement presence was headed east on Alderpoint Road, above the switchbacks.

A few minutes later, another reader confirmed, “Convoy meeting at Bell [S]prings and [A]lderpoint at top of hill.”

Reports indicate that there’s approximately 15 vehicles, including 4 CHP, a couple marked Sheriff vehicles and several unmarked vehicles.

We have reached out to the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office for information, we will update when we receive additional information.

UPDATE: Samantha Karges, Public Information Specialist for the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, stated, “The Sheriff’s Office is serving a search warrant in the area today as part of an ongoing investigation. We are unable to release more details at this time.”

Remember that this story is unfolding. Information is being reported as we gather it. However, some of the information coming from witnesses and initial official reports could be wrong. We will do our best to get the facts but, in the case taht something is inaccurate, we will update with correct information as soon as we can.

I would like to point out these alerts can be very counter productive to the community. I know it makes good news and warns growers etc but what if they are going after say a murder suspect of the rancher your article today discussed. This could tip them off and they get away, an officer or innocent bystander hurt or killed. There is always a ripple effect called 2nd and 3rd order of effects. Just saying…………..

Are you really suggesting that you think this convoy might have something to do with solving Richard Drewry’s murder, apprehending a suspect in that case, or is even in any way, investigating it?

Unfortunately, that is a complete joke.

You think they give a damn about a year old murder of one of the most upstanding local citizen’s?

Not, apparently, as long as they have tons of tuppies to conquer, they don’t.

Not to mention the associated cash, ripe to plunder…

If they were on their way to ruin whoever shot and killed Richard Drewry, that would be a pleasant surprise, it will just be a year too late.

No I am suggesting there are other crimes other than growing going on in Humboldt and warning people ahead of time cops are coming might let someone get away that needs to go to prison and might even result in someone getting hurt. Here is an example unrelated to this. Washington stated screwed up a few years ago and let some inmates out early. As a result of that at leat three people were killed in different incidents by former inmates that should have still been in prison. Hopefully it is not someone you care about that is hurt or killed but it could be….

“Here’s an example that is unrelated to this “. Are you F#+king kidding? Your example is so unrelated to this there was absolutely no point in putting it in your comment. Makes one wonder if you are all there? People being released by the state(any state) has absolutely nothing to do with her notifying the public about the convoy.

Maybe a comment like crap’s, could be doing the tipping off, then. A little too coincidental being the first to comment, ‘and’ mentioning “murder suspect of the rancher”.

Otherwise, the convoy could have just been coming for anybody, as far as the murder suspect knew, until that sort of comment is made.

I guess that could make a comment like his, spot on.

Lol! Cash!? Product?! Ain’t worth a fart in a whirlwind! Who spends a lot of money on good tomatoes? Any slack-jawed, mouth-breather can grow quality weed in the comfort of his/her own home to meet the demands of the supply that person needs to maintain whatever level of altered state they want to be in!!!

Weed ain’t worth a plugged nickel at the county fair these days. And guess what? Ain’t never gonna be worth shit again!

Think, tomatoes…

If only convoys were for searching for missing folks or apprehending a subject.
Theyre not.
You cant even get this big of a response if your kids missing in the woods.
Only other time is if someone is barricaded in a building, then they get to use the big toys they bought from the military so usually lots of sheriffs show up at those calls.

Convoys are used for pot busts.
I saw them one of the last times they met at bell springs (a few months ago) and they went to island mtn that day.

They are VERY obvious so anyone driving the road cant miss them. They do the tip off themselves. They are thieves. Its good to know when theyre in your hood in case they do a field warrant and come to your property even if you have no pot.

Yuhhh, you say the law enforcement in the hills taking down illegal grows are thieves, they are taking pot and other items that you own illegally. I hope they are also bringing arrest warrants for the creeps growing this crap. You are wrecking streams, polluting the soil with chemical that are poison, dumping and leaking diesel fuel, and killing any wildlife that like to eat your garbage. Time to run and hide!!!

Really. Humboldt County sending 15 cars for a murder suspect?

Are you new to the area?

They only come after non violent criminals growing a plant in force.

Murders get a detective car of that’s even sent out.

Here’s something I posted before in the comment section. This is a 2019 version. I hope it helps.

What I do doesn’t create an early warning system (the telephone trees in the neighborhoods are way more effective though).

Let’s look at what happens. I have to get at least two different eye witness accounts before I publish. That takes time.

Then, if everything went perfectly for the cultivator, the one or two growers that are going to be targeted that day would have to see the post when it first comes out and immediately connect that law enforcement is headed to their particular grow. (How the heck does the grower know that? There are literally hundreds if not thousands of grows that can be reached by going out Briceland Road, for instance. Though as of 2022 probably less than there were a few years ago.)

Then the grower immediately does what? Nothing. There is nothing he can do but leave his property (marijuana plants are planted and don’t move and with same day satellite views from the air, law enforcement has already seen what is on the property) and he doesn’t really believe that they are going to raid him not his neighbor–growers like farmers everywhere are usually optimists. So he goes and does his regular routine.

Or, let’s say he goes to town just in case. Then officers have his name as the owner if they decide it is worthwhile to arrest him. (Note added Aug 7, 2019: the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office is not arresting growers even if they are on scene. The owner of the Salmon Creek property raided in August was on scene and Lt. Fridley told me the Sheriff’s Department plans to send the results of their investigation to the DA’s Office for charges later. He said it just slows them down in the field to arrest them.–as of July 2021 I don’t recall anyone being arrested for just growing–sometimes growers are picked up for warrants or other offenses but none that I can think of for just growing.)

Do you imagine in New York that if there was a large gathering of law enforcement headed somewhere that reporters wouldn’t be reporting that?

Of course, they would. Heck, there’d be news helicopters circling overhead.

But no one thinks that the gang member on the east side is warned that law enforcement is coming for him by their reports. How is it that I’m warning growers by reporting on a large movement of officers?

These convoy posts provide community members with the reassurance that someone is watching law enforcement to ensure that rules are followed, warns of traffic impacts (large convoys on rural roads can cause problems) and (this one isn’t a popular reason with some but it works like this) like the simple presence of a patrol car, the post spreads a sense that law enforcement is working at eradicating–thus actually adding to their influence. It is impossible to bust every grow. Some of what law enforcement wants is to push other growers out of the business because the growers are afraid of being the next cultivator busted.

I also want to add that the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office has reached out to me several times to let me know that they were going after a suspect not a pot garden and asked me to not post about their movements that specific day because suspects unlike gardens can flee. I always honor their requests–I live in this area, too, and want a safe community. In addition, the Sheriff’s office gave me an award a few years ago. I’m pretty sure they wouldn’t have done that if they thought the convoy posts were problematic.

I could give two shits about growers. Legalize it where you can have fields of it like corn. That ship sailed long ago. I am more worried about another idiot say murder suspect etc being in the area and even if they are not after them their meth induced paranoia get someone hurt. You have a right to publish what you want and thanks for clairfying you position, but just thought I would bring it up for something you to consider when it is not growing season.

I agree. This early warning system is a joke when you find out what they were actually up to I hope you feel bad for doing this. You should not report these things it put officers in danger it allows people to know we’re they are and could be targeted or flee when they should be getting arrested. Shame on you for finding it ok to do such a thing and to top it off post some long explanation on why YOU think it’s ok. Snitch is all you are and anti police.

We do not rely on Kym’s blog at all for convoy alerts, ffs!!! Also, this is more like a safety notice cause of all the fuck’in vehicles they use clogging up our mountain roads.

No one feels bad, trust me, and they shouldn’t. Seems like you don’t have much community in your life, look within would be my first suggestion.

Lil T Bone even got shirts and hoodies for sale. Not to mention his terrible herb on half the dispensary shelves. You got nothing to worry about when Pops is in bed with the Sheriff. Keep doing your thing youngsters.

I’d like to see a convoy to Eureka where I work, step over needles, human piss and vomit, watch drug deals and pay super close attention to my surroundings at night.when I leave. Or,hey, a convoy to the Hammond Trail for ur “pop outta the bushes masturbator” or the couple harassing people for money with a baby in tow in the Safeway parking lot? Or? How abouts them fentanyl slingin’,parole violating felons
on Guintoli, and the Arcata community/Healthsport area. (And always Eureka). Doesn’t mean a damn thing if our laws don’t support consequences or treatment I guess..leave the growers alone ffs.

There are no convoys to your suggestions because their is no money in those busts. As mentioned earlier there are cops in these convoys that are thieves too. The rest get paid decently for the job which includes long drives and fresh air. Sounds like a much better time than dealing with poor scum in town.

FYI- the situation at Arcata Community Center/Healthsport is not the fault of Arcata Police Department. Their hands are tied by the Arcata City Council who has instructed them to only respond to serious violent events. They must let everything else just go w/o even a ticket….There are some decent people there living in their cars. Then there are not decent people selling fentanyl and other drugs and the city council has no clue what the difference is…because they are completely washed over by False Compassion and symbolic acts.

I see a lot of these folks. Some of them have mental or emotional issues that they never asked for. It’s criminal that we throw them into situations where they are predated upon. And we allow the predators to operate because ” we are compassionate and we care”?! It is some bullshit. Most of these people need housing and some structure and way less drugs.

I love it, keep the busts coming and clean out the hills of the dip shit growers that only care about making their money. To hell with the environment as long as they get the cash so they can buy the big fancy grow dozers, have a fake woman on the arm, and be a big man!

The more growers we get out of our hills, and sooner rather than later, is all good.
